HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - February 4, 1907Public Hall, Lodi, Cal. Feby. 4, 1907 The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in the regular session, President Lawrence presiding. Present: Lawrence, Villinger, Hale, Blodgett, Rich. Report of Pound Master for the month of January, 1907, read, approved and placed on file. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Claim of J. M. McMahon for $6.95 for traveling expenses and petty supplies read and on motion duly made, seconded and carried was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of J. M. McMahon for $81 being for $69 to pay Carlise & Co.'s bill for Book & Co., and for $12 to pay Patrick & Co.'s bill for Seal, Stamps,etc., read and, on motion duly made seconded, and carried, was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of Harrison Brannard for $15.70 for Pound Master fees & Labor read, and on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of the Lodi Mill & Lumber Co. for $14 for 1 table read, and on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of the Lodi Sentinel of $56 for printing read, and, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, was allowed and ordered. Claim of C. E. Elwell of $1 for meals for prisoners read, and, on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of H. B. Coleman of $1.30 for Transporting prisoners to the county jail read, and on motions duly made, seconded and carried, was allowed, and ordered paid. Claim of Will S. Cluff of $2 for typewriting read, and on motion duly made, seconded, and carried was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of Cory Bros. of $1 for water at the street trough for month of December and for lighting the Public Hall for December and January read, and on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of Lodi Herald for $27 for printing read and on motion duly made carried, was allowed and ordered paid. Claim of the Young Lumber Co. of $33.57 for lumber read, and on motion duly made, seconded, and carried, was allowed and ordered paid. 30 Claim of Dougherty, Whitaker & Ray Co. of $22.20 for rebate on saloon License for 20 days read, and on motion duly made, seconded and carried was laid on the table. Claim of Lemoin & Fish of $41 for printing read, and on motion duly made, seconded and carried was laid on the table and referred back to claimants for correction. Mr. J. Harry Lilly appeared before the Board and submitted figures showing the rate of license charges the Telephone Company in different cities, claiming that Lodi was the highest in proportion to revenue of the Company. Mr. T. D. Jacobs also addressed the Board in behalf of the Pacific Telephone Co., and spoke of the many courtesies the Company might show the City. Stated that he was willing to answer any questions that might be asked. Trustee Hale asked if it were not a fact that the telephone company was paying for a franchise in those cities where the rate of License was low. Mr. Jacobs did not know. Rev. W. B. Grant appeared as the representation of the Lodi Library Association desired to extend their scope and had communicated with Carnegie and had received an encouraging reply. Hoped that the Library would be accepted by the City and said that they had the offer of two different lots for a building did not state the prices. Mentioned the Axtell Lot and the Mrs. Green lot. Stated that Women's' Improvement Club would contribute $250 toward the purchase of the lot. Matter was passed over till later. Mr. Morey of the Cary Safe and Lock Company appeared before the Board and stated that he would like to sell the City a Safe. Would sell the city the Safe and wait until the City was ready to pay for the same — one or two years. Mr. S. F. Diree on behalf of the Women's Improvement Club wished to know what action the Board would take in regard to putting in more fire plugs, and placing signs at the street corners. Mr. W. P. Grant referred to the matter of furnishing water for the park as the Railroad Company has signified its willingness to plant the park and furnish a man to care for it. Ordinance No 18, providing for Licensing Lodging Houses read. Moved by Villinger, seconded by Blodgett that Ordinance No 18 be adopted as read. Carried by the following vote: Ayes; Villinger, Blodgett, Hale and Rich. Noes; None. Ordinance No 19 (Sidewalks) read and discussed. No further business coming before the Board, the board then adjourned to reconvene Wednesday, Feby. 6, 1907 J. M. McMahon City Clerk 31
