HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - January 21, 1907Public Hall, Lodi, Ca. Jany 21,1907 The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in the regular session, President Lawrence presiding. Present; Lawrence, Blodgett, Villinger, Rich & Hale. Absent; None Communication of the Dougherty, Whitaker & Ray Co. praying for a permit and License to conduct a Saloon at the Corner of Sacramento and Pine Streets read. Moved by C. A. Rich , seconded by L. Villinger, that the petition of the Dougherty, Whitaker & Ray Co. for a saloon License be granted in accordance with the petition and the clerk instructed to issue the License. Carried by the following vote: Ayes; Rich, Villinger, Blodgett, and Hale. Noes; None Communication of R. L. Dennett of Modesto , City Atty. for Oakdale, relation to and enclosing a draft of a proposed bill to provide for the return of Road Funds to incorporated cities road and the clerk instructed to mail the same to assemblyman A. E. Percival at Sacramento. Mr. Theodore Levi appeared before the Board and requested that he be allowed to peddle without a license as he was in a serious financial condition. Moved by C.A. Rich seconded by F. O. Hale that the request be denied. Carried by the following vote: Ayes; Rich, Hale Blodgett & Villinger. Mr. E. F. Nickel appeared before the Board and requested that he be allowed to pay the highest license only on his business of Cigar & Tobacco Store and Wine Store. Committee on the dirt question reported that Mr. Bowman would haul the dirt @ 50 cents per load; that F. H. Lee reported that he formerly hauled it for 25 cents per load. Moved by Blodgett, seconded by Rich that we are not at the present time prepared to take up the matter of hauling dirt on the streets, and that the committee be discharged . Carried unanimously. Pres. G. E. Lawrence as the committee on Legislation matters reported that he had consulted with District Attorney McNoble and that they had made the necessary change in the proposed draft of the Percival bill and forwarded the same to Hon. A. E. Percival. Committee left standing. Ordinance no 14 awarding subdivision 10 of Ordinance No 2 read. 26 Carried by the following vote: Ayes; Blodgett, Villinger, Rich, & Hale. Noes; None. Ordinance No 15 relating to Restaurant, Hotel, & Boarding House Liquor Licenses read. Moved by Rich, Seconded by Hale that Ordinance No 15 be adopted as read. Carried by following vote: Ayes; Rich, Hale, Blodgett, & Villinger. Noes; None Moved by C. A. Rich, seconded by J. M Blodgett that a person or firm who runs a billiard or pool room or like game such as a bowling alley need a separate Merchandise License. Carried by the following vote; Ayes; Rich, Blodgett, and Lawrence. Noes; Hale and Villinger. No objection being offered, it was declared by Pres. Lawrence to be the order of the Board that the proposition of J. K. Nay to sweep the streets at $12 per block every other day be accepted as to 3 3/4 to become affective on the first day of February and terminate at the pleasure of the board. During rainy weather Mr. Nay is to clear the mud from the crosswalks and keep the gutters open. The clerk was instructed to draw up a contract between the City and Mr. Nay. The Board then adjourned to reconvene Friday evening, Jany. 25, 1907 J. M. McMahon City Clerk 27
