was read.
On motion of Trustee Ric'. -..seconded by Trustee :'ale,the
petition was grente,r?.and lights ordered installed on North Sacramento
Street.E.Lcceford Street. i r et the norner of W. .Oct:e ford Street
and Pleasant Avenue.

a copy of a resoluti0n and aekine that the same be adopted by the
Board of Trustees was rcad.and the following resolution in accordance

That the use of all _-ublic waters upon lands should be
governed by the rules prescribed for the use o: s'.;ch 'haters upon
lands by ap-iropriat±on.ard that no claim to such public waters should
be valid,unless such waters are applied to a beneficial use.
That it is cer opinion that the construction and operation
of a canal by the Federal or the State groverr_rment.fror the San

about Stoct:ton.of sufficient capacity to carry to the many natural

rivers,is feasible,and that said waters could be sold by the govern—

if it will pass a resolution reQuesting the Federal Congress to cause
a survey of such proposed canal and wors.and an estimate of the cost
and the feasibility thereof.to be made.to the end that the same may
be ccnstructed and put in operation by the United States to rotect
the San Joaquin Valley from such flood waters,and at the sake time
put such flood waters t0 a beneficial -.se.with remunerative returns
to the govern!rent,prcvided.the Legislature determines that the St:.te

The matter of tearing down the GA. shed at threear cf the
water works was left to the committee of the whole.
The !natter of a municipal building was taken u_o,and rough
plans prepared by the clerk examined. The general plan appeared to
be satisfactory to the members of the 3oari.
