The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in
regular sessi.on,President G.B.Lawrence presidir.:; and the following
other members of the Board being present:J.M.Blodgett,F.O.Hale,
C.A.Rich and L.Villinge2..
The Minutes of the Previous Meeting were read and approved.
Frank I.Atherton was granted a permit to construct a Resid-
ence on Lot 7 of Block 45 Ivory's Addition.
;:r.J.1).Crose on behalf of the Civic LeaEue of Lodi pres-
ented the matter of boys' frequenting Pool and Billiard Rooms. He
asked to have the Clerk read Ordinance No.5C0 of the City of Stockton,
which the Clerk did. :'_r.Crose thereupon addressed the Board asking
that,.a similar ordinance be enacted in this City.
President Lawrence asked if the ordinance had ever begin
passed upon by the courts.Proponent sayeth not.The matter was taken_
under advisement for reference to the City Attorney.
Mr.Jno.Frederickson,on behalf of Miss Anna Brack.,then
made a request in writing to the Board asking for permission to con-
struct a sidewalk in front of Miss 3rack's property at the SW.Cor.
of Elm and School .Sts.,beginnirg said sidewalk 18" from the dividing
line instead of 3' as provided in the Ordinance.setting forth as a
reason for such request the nearness of several large trees,which
he claimed prevented the sidewalk from being constructed in accord-
ance with the ordinance.
There appearing toe good reason for granting the request,the
Board on motion regularly passed granted the permission desired.
Judge J.R.Wherity addressed the Board in regard to the
Nay Dairy,claiming that such dairy is a nuisance,and asked the Board
to ?pass an ordinance limiting the number of cowsthat may be kept by
one party within the City Limits. He stated that.as hr.Nay was a
poor man and might require a little time.t.o remedy the evil,the
Board should give him sufficient time so that he might avoid serious
loss.
:fr.D.F.Cwens spoke in support of Judge Wrerity's suggestion,but
denied that Mr.Nay is a poor man. He claimed that the existence of
the dairy depreciated the value of their property. saying,"Who would
want to buy along side of a thin?' like that"?
Mr.C.L.Van Buskirk also spoke in favor of abating the so-called
nuisnace.
The matter was referred to the Committee of the ,.hole.

Hr.Ado ph Bauer asked if a man had a right to haul two or
three loads of dirt onto the sidewalk and leave the sarie there with—
out leveling it off. He stated that such an obstruction existed in
front of 'r.Van Buskirk's Creamery Station cn South School St.
2.r.Van Buskirk stated that Mr. Bauer was mistaken,as he had hauled
six or seven loads there.
The ...atter was referred to the St.Supt.for a report at the
next meeting.
Mr.Jro.Stein spoke in favor of compelling people to grade
their sidewalks up to the St.grade,and asked that the Board have the
St.crossirgs on School St.at Walnut St.fixed.-
Thereupon the City Clerk was instructed to order another
car of New Rock.
Mr.Jno.Frerterickson stated that he would like to close the
sideway; on Oak St . along the Madison Huilding for the safety of the
public. Pres.Lawrence said he saw no objection to such precaution.
A representative of the Standar Portland Cement Company
stated that he understood that the specifications for the Sewer
System provided for Eastern Cement to the exclusion of the California
product. He asked that this be remedied and that the local cements
be allowed,stating that the California Cement Companies would give
the Board any guarantee required. President Lawrence thanked the
gentleman for ^aliing the 3oarcfs' attention to this'matter and assur—
ed the gentleman that Western Cements would be included.,
Mr.F.J.Beaty,who was present,recomrended the local product.
Mr.3eaty asked if the Board had already arranged for the
plans for the Municipal Building.saying that he would like to com—
pete in the drawing of such plans. He was informed that the plans
were already prepared.
Trustee Villinger suggested that the water wagons be placed
on planx so that the wheels would riot sink into the mud. The matter
was referred to the St.Supt.,who suggested that a temporary shed be
placed over therm.
A letter from the Byron. Jackson Machine Works was read and
filed.
Aletter from Assistant Supt.S.P.Co.,J.D.Brennan,thanking
us for calling his attention to the violations of the speed ordinance
and promising to have the matter remedied,was read and filed.
The Reports of the City Clerk and Treasurer for the Quarter
ending Dec.31,1909,having been read at the last meeting were approved
and ordered filed.
An application for the improvement of Walnut Street between
the S.P.trax and Main St.was read and referred to the Street Committee
and St.Supt. _
A Petition for St.LiChts at Garfield and Pine and Grand
and Pine was read and laid on the table.
It was moved and seconded -that this Board do now adjourn
to meet on •ionday.Jan.24,1910. Carried and so ordered.
