In adjourned regular session of the Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi,the following trustees being present:y.A.Blach, G.L.Lawrence and C.A.Rich Abse:it:Trustees ..0. ale andJ.M.Blor ett. President Lawrence presiding. The minutes of the meeting of June 23,1513,were read and approved. A petltion.purportir.g to be stgned by 336 residents ar.d tax—payers,as_:ing for the opening of Lee or Pleasai t Avenue from Pine to Cak Street,was read and referred to the Committee of the iihole. Mrs.J.S.Montgomery,President of the Woman's Improvement Club, viho presented the petition,made a brief statement of the reasons that caused t:•:e'r.:atter to be ta::en up. She stated that the Weber property could be had for $25 per foot and the Dougherty property for t33 per foot. Lr....M.Tower argued in favcr of Pleasant Avenue. Stated that the Rcbinete property could be had for 01000. and that he wo:1d give free six feet of his property. Mrs.'..:ontgomery thanked the 'fru' tees andY_ower. ' }-. .Welch and G.L.Meioner sug ested'hst the matter of street opening be taken upal: over the city aid the cost estimated and the proposition submitted to the people. On motion of Rich,it was suggested that the Cier}: be instructed tc get the advice of Jones. on the I:,,;tter of the Board power to take from the General Fund for street openin . City Marshal and Superintendent of Streets,P.3.Colenan, submitted tt the Hoard a complete report of his offices since the incorporation of the cit;- to the present time,toget^er with an inventory of the city property under his Control. He clearly set forth the circtunstances leading up his recent cancellation or revoking of the appointment of Leputy Marshal 'vers and the reasons entitling him to the support of the Board. The report was referred to the Committee of the whole. A communication from Marshal Coleman requesting that his salary as Marshal be increased to S _... per month and. as S upt . of Streets to 525. per mcl;th,and that a night watchman be appointed at a salary of 585. per menth,said watchman to be deputized by and receive orders and instructions from, the ;:arshal.was ream and refered to the Committee of the Thole. The rep 't of the Marshal for the month of Ji:ne was read and approved. Supt.Henning replied to same of the criticisms of Th:pert Barry. stat-e that generally bills were paid hi:.- before he was reimbursed by the Oit.and that he had a complete record of all sales. Trustee Rich protested againet and more work being .one cn the r.eF:- well without a contract being entered into.
