In regualr session of the Board of Trustees of the City
of Lodi,the following trustees being present: C.A.3iacic,J.M.Blodgett,
G.E.Lawrence and C.A.Rich. Absent: F.O.Hale. President Lawrence pre-
siding.

The minutes of the meeting .f July 22nd.were read,ard Trustee
Rich suggested that the report of J.B.Jersen's proposition was not
complete in as mach as it should state that Jensen: proposed for the
sur:, of 5600.00 to produce at least 600 gallons per minute additional
water from a strat'lo'.ver than the strata from which the present supply
is pumped. The president ordered such ax correction to bex made in
the minutes.
J._ .Stein,J.?i.B:aminger,L.F,.t'are,P.W.Spencer.Geo.F.Cluff,
:,._.Deaver and ;m.Lupton spoke in opposition to the granting of the
franchise to Central California Traction Company for a spur track
on 'port_. Sacramento Street,and a representative of the company spoke
in favor of the granting. President Lawrence referred the application
to the Committee of the Whole,with the statement that it would be
taken v:.p next Monday evening.
The reports of the harshal,the Cierk.and the Treasurer
were approved.
The followin., applications Ofr building per its were read

Haslam & Ranson,dwelling on lot 13 of block 9,7.Loai;
C.I.Rice.dwell_ng on lot 10 block 2 Larsons Pine St.Add.;
L.E.McClung.imp.of d'sg.on lot 6 block 13.
A communication from the Pacific Coast Fire A.ssoc_ation
read and filed.
A communication from Merchants' Association regarding dodgers
was read and referred to the Marshal.
A communication from the Executive Committee of the fire

department.reeommending the purchase of an automobile,was read and
referred to the Public Utilities Com:littee.
The application of City Street Improvement Company for per-
:ission to improve !C.Oak Street from SaoraLlento to School Streets
was read,and,on a�ccunt of some trivial question as to the width
of the roadway,was "referred to Street C•o n:ittee.
A proposed ordinance relating tc fire escapes,exits,&c.,
having been in course of constructio: for several months.was read.
but not introduced.

Inspector ^apper asked for a two weeks leave of absence,
which,on motion of Rich,,:as granted.
"arshal Coleman asked for a leave of absence of two
weeks or twelve days.which ,or. :Notion of 31ack,was granted.
The Public Utilities Committee reported that the extension
Of the sewer and water service from the alley between Daisy Avenue
and Pleasant Avenue,trence west on Daisy Avenue to ?leas:,Int Avenue,
thence north on Pleasant Avenue to the alley between Laisy and
Woodbridge Avenues,thence west to Lincoln Street would cost,according
to the engineer,about $581.0C,and recommended that the work '•e order-
ed. On motion of Rich,secorded by Black,the report of the committee
was accepted and the work ordered.
The matter of the Band stand vas referred to Blodgett.
A letter from the State Board of Health and a letter from
the local Board of Health asking that a muzzling ordinance be enacted
were read and the matter referred to the City Attorney to prepare
the necessary ordinance.
On motion of Rich,it was ordered that the flags 'Le allowed
to be placed on the electroliers on the 15th.of August.
The proposed centra^t with Western States Gas and Electric
Company was presented by J.T.Langford,and discussed.
Cn motion of Blodgett,seconded by Black,it was ordered
that the President of the Board of Trustees be authorized to sign,
on behalf of the city,the contract with restern States Gas and
Electric Company.
The Clerk was instructed to send the contract and claims
blanks to the Company for signing.
J.w.?;icAfee was employed as janitor of the new building
from Aug.l at a salary of $15.O pe?
The mater of monuments for street work was referred to
Street Committee.
Various claims against the c1ty,i¢aving been approved by tate
Finance Con.iittee,were allowed and ordered paid in the sum Of
$4471.75.
