HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 6, 1916'tanicipal Building, Lodi, dal., :larch 6, 1916 The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in regu- lar session at 9:00 A. M. There were present Trustees Hale, Black, Keeney, Deaver and Folendorf. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The following building permits were granted; J. C. Brown, dwelling at 428 Tokay street - J. K. Bender, dwelling lot 7, block 40, City of Lodi. J.W.Hieb,for S.H.-Zimmerma.n,garage 203 West oak street. Gregg & Son,for H-T.Markham, on resubdivision of lots 2. 3 and 4, block 9, Hutchins Addition. Gregg & Son, for H.J.Markham, on resubdivision of lots 2,3 and 4, block 9, Mtchins Addition. The application of A. A. Marmon for appointment as tree warden was read and ordered placed on file. The reports of City Marshal Colemen and Supt. of -Sewers Hen- ning were read and ordered filed. A communication from Warden Smith of Folsom Prison offering crushed rock for sale was read and ordered filed. A petition bearing 120 signatures was presented and read re- questing the Board: to submit to the electorate of the city at the next election the question: "Shall the City of Lodi Acquire, Maintain and Operate a Municipal Street Paving Plant." The following resolution was introduced and read: R3SOLUTION. WHEREAS, A petition, numerously signed -by citizens and tax- payers of this city, asking that the question of the establishment and operation of a municipal street paving plant be submitted to the electorate•, has been filed with the City Clerk,therefore be it RESOLVED, That, in substantially the following form, the fol- lowing question be submitted to a vote of trig -qualified electors of this city at the Municipal Election to be held in this city on April 10, 1916 - Shall -the 916:Shall-the City of Lodi Aquire, Maintain and Operate:YE'S ; a municipal Street Paving Plant? :NO Trustee Keeney, seconded by Trustee Folendorf, moved the adopt - Ion of the above resolution as read. The motion was carried by the fol- lowing vote: Ayes -Trustees Ha16,Black, Keeney, Deaver -and Folendorf. Noes -Mons. Sohn P. Treder asked for a permit to install a 120 -gallon gas- oline tank under the sidewalk at 211 North Sacrarpnto street, with a pump next the curb. Upon -motion of Trustee Keeney, seconded by Trus- tee BlacK, t e permit was granted. The resolution submitting the question of a municipal swimming tank to a vote of the people, which was introduced, read and laid on the table February 28th was read: :RESOLUTION. WHEREAS, There has been deposited'with the Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi, by the Civic Improvement Committee of the Cham- ber of Commerce of Northern San Joaquin County on behalf of the Boys' Club of Lodi, the sum of One Thousand Dollars $1000.00), to be used in th.- construction of a 2Mnicipal Swimming Tank, which said sum rep- resents the voluntary contributions of irany people of the community; and WHEFERFAS, The Board of Trustees of said city is not fully sat- isfied as to the wisdom, expediency and public dena d for the expen- diture required for the construction and maintenance of such munici- pal s,viming tank; therefore be it RESOLVED, That the question of the construction of such mu- � nicipal swimming tank be referred to the people at the re-jular mu- nici,_al election to be held in said city on the 10th day of April, 1916, and be submitted on the ballot thereof in substantially the following form.; Shall the Board of Trustees of the City of YES ' Lodi Construct a Munici-oal Swimming Tank,at - a Cost not Exceeding $6000.00? NO ' 439 Trustee Folendorf moved, seconded by Trustee Black, the adovt- ior. of the resolution. The motion was carried by the follolving vote: Ayes -Trustees Hale, Black, Keeney, Deaver and Folendorf. Noes -None. John Bauer, Director of the Tokay Band, arplied to, the Board fcr an appropriation in the sum of 417 for each of twelve oven -air band concerts to be given during the summer. Trustee Deaver moved, seconded by Trustee Keeney, that the sum cf $17 be appropriated for each of twelve band concerts, as asked for, to be paid monthly. The Motion was carried unanimously. Ordinance No. 95, entitled, °An Ordinance Providing for Muni - I cin.il ?Pgulation, Planting, Care and Control of Trees," was introduced jand upon notion laid upon the table for not less than.five days. Bills amounting to $4237.20 were allowed and ordered paid. The matter of extending water service to the residence of Mrs. ada I. Harris and others outside of the city was taken up and dis- cussed.
