The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in ad-
journed regular session at 8:00 p. m. There were present Trustees
Hale, Black, Keeney, Deaver and Folendorf.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Building permits were granted as follows:
J. G. Thompson, private garage, 408 West Locust Street
M. D. Foccaci, " • " , 342 North Pleasant Avenue.
W.P.Lancaster, " " , Lots 7-8 Lancaster Court.
Walter Skotland, "• " , 525 North School Street.
The application of Hotel Lodi Company, a corr.oration, for
license to conduct a saloon business at 104 West Pine street, having
been introduced and read at the meeting of the Board of Trustees
December 20th, was found to be in regular form under the provisions
of Ordinance No. 78. No protests against granting the same having
been filed with the City Clerk, Trustee Keeney moved, seconded by
Trustee Folendorf, the license be granted. The motion was carried
by the following vote: Ayes: Trustees Hale, Black, Keeney, Deaver
and Folendorf. Nays: None. Absent: None.
A_com^ninication from the Civic Improvement Committee of
the Chamber of Commerce reauested the Board to remedy the unsightly
condition of the City's lots at Lodi Avenue and Sacramento streets
by removing the incinerator, cleaning up all refuse and junk and
parking the same. The matter was referred to a committee of the whole.
W. P. Lancaster requested the Board to purchase 10 or 12
loads of dirt to fill up the sidewalk space fronting certain lots on
First street. Referred to street committee.
J.C.Ferguson reported to the Board that the sewer was not
in working condition at the Ferguson -Hopkins building on North Sac-
ramento street. The matter was referred to Public Utilities Com-
mittee.
Trustee Black moved, seconded by Trustee Keeney, that the
President of the Board be authorized to secure, if possible, the
services of James T. Langford as expert in the matter of the con-
troversy over the electric contract between the City of Lodi and
Mason Brothers, to figure proper rates for the same and make a re-
port with recommendations to the Board, all necessary records and
data to be furnished by the Superintendent and City Clerk's office.
The motion was carried by the following vote::Ayes: Trustees Hale,
Black, Keeney, Deaver and Folendorf. Nays: None. Absent: None.
• Following discussion of the proper disposition of a com-
munication from Trustee Deaver to the Board under date of December
20th recommending the dismissal of Superintendent Henning, Trustee
Deaver made the following motion: "I move that the services of Super-
intendent of Public Utilities Henni-ng be dispensed with -January 1,
1916, for reasons previously set forth." There was no second.
Trustee Keeney moved, seconded by Trustee Black, that the
communication above referred to be placed on file. The motion was
carried by the following vote: Ayes: Keeney, Black, Deaver, Folen-
dorf and Hale. Nays: None. Absent: None.
Superintendent Henning, in a communication to the Board, -
recommended certain changes and reductions in rates for electric
energy for power, which communication was filed and the matter re-
ferred to a committee of the whole.
The matter of improved water service for the -residences
of John Montgomery and Walter Taylor was referred to Chairman Black
of the Public Utilities Committee.
Trustee Black suggested to the Board that the time is now
ripe for the City of Lodi to take over the care and planting of
the sidewalk trees of the City, and recommended that the matter be
taken up at once, proper rules and regulations be formulated and
a tree warden appointed.
The natter of a proper floor covering for the lobby of the
city hall and City Clerk's office was referred to Trustee Black,
Chairman of the Public Utilities Committee,with power to act..
Upon motion the Board adjourned.
