The Board of Trustees of the City ofLodi convened in regular
session at 8:00 p.m., there being present Trustees Rale, Black,
Deaver,7geeney and Folendorf.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
A building permit was granted to Chas. I. Rice to construct
a dwelling at 223 North School street to be used as Congregational
Church parsonage.
A permit was granted to A. P. Wakefiled to build a poultry
house at 210 South Sacramento street.
The resignation of City Recorder George P. Hanna was read
andlaid over for consideration at a later date.
The Gamewell Fire Alarm Telegraph Company, in a written
communication to the Board, made two propositions for furnishing
improved fire alarm apparatus. The Board after consideration de-
cided by motion to accept the- proposal whereby the above named
company offered to furnish one Diaphone operating unit and one
whistle machine for operating same for the sum of #580 f.o.b.
factory Newton Upper Falls, Mass., and to take in return as part
uayment the fire bell now in use at 32c per pound, amounting.to
4384; and the bell striker now in use in connection with Said
bell at• $150. It is a condition of this proposal that the Dia -
phone operating unit is to be accepted on trial for a period of
90 days to be returned at the expense of the company if not
found satisfactory at the expiration of said period. If found
satisfactory the diaphone unit and whistle machine to operate
the same is to be purchased by the City of Lodi at the figures
Quoted plus freight charges; all installing expenses to be borne
by the purchaser.
The. Lodi Sentinel, in a written communication to the Board,
offered to assume the printing contract of the Lodi Post for the
balance of the fiscal year, the latter paper having suspended
publication, whereupon the following resolution was unanimously
adopted:

Declaring the Lodi Sentinel to be the Official Paper of
the City of Lodi.
WHEREAS, The Lodi Post was by resolution awarded the con-
tract to Co the city printing and was declared the official paper
of the City of Lodi for the term ending June 30, 1915; and
WHEREAS, The aforesaid paper has suspended publication and
has transferred certain of its obligations to the Lodi Sentinel
for fulfillment; and
WHEREAS, The Lodi Sentinel, a newspaper of general circu-
lation printed and published in the City of Lodi, has made a
written offer to take over and fulfill the obligations of the
Lodi Post; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That the offer of the Lodi Sentinel be, and the
same is, hereby accepted, and that the Board of Trustees of the
City of Lodi does hereby declare the Lodi Sentinel to be the
official paper of the City of Lodi for the official printing of
ordinances, resolutions and other legal natter required by law
to be printed and published, the same to be in effect from and
after this date to Tune 30, 1915.
The Shell Company of California applied for permission to
erect suitable buildings, lay spur tracks, etc., for the carry-
ing on of the business of distribution of petroleum products
on lot 19, biocK 5, Moran -Handel Aadition, in the City of Lodi.
The matter was laid over until April 22d for final consideration.
Upon behalf of the Trustees of the Lodi Union High School
City Engineer Barzellotti presented a plat of the proposed re-
subdivision of lots 2, 3 and 4,block 9, Hutchins Addition, being
the site of the old high school building. There was some objection
to accepting the plat on account of the alley not being opened
through other property to connect with the alley running east and
west through block 6, Th tchins Addition, arid after discussion the
matter was laid over for future consideration.
Trustee Keeney moved, seconded by Trustee Polendorf, that it
is the :sense of this board that no electroliers be installed in
the City of Lodi except on paved streets. The motion was carried
unanimously.
Upon motion_ of Trustee Keeney, seconded by Trustee Black,
the Superintendent of Public Utilities was instructed to install

overhead lights at the following points: School street and Daisy
Avenue; School street at north end of Homebuilders' property;
north end of Sacramento street; each street intersection on West
Elm street west of Hutchins street; also to -move the pole which
now stands in the sidewalk on Hutchins street in front of the Lodi
Union Nigh School.
Upon motion of Trustee Keeney, seconded by Trustee Folendorf,
the SunPrintendent of Streets was authorized to purchase from Clark
& Henery Construction Company 819 feet of 2x6 O.P. planks in the
paved alleys between Pine and Elm, Sacramento and Schools streets.
Upon motion re rg:larly made, seconded and carried, the Board
adjourned to reconvene Thursday, April 22d, at 8:00 p.m.,
