HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 15, 1915Municipal Building, Lodi, Cal., March 15,. 1915. The Board or Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in regular session at 8:00 p. m. There were present Trustees Hale, Black, Keeney, Deaver and Folendorf. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. A permit was granted to J. E. Hopkins and J. C. Ferguson to remodel a building on lot 5, block 13, City of Lodi. A permit was granted to F. 0, Hale to construct a two- story building at No. 20 west Pine street, with the proviso that no cement or plaster be mixed on the surface of -the street pave- ment. F. L. Cornwell asked for permission to remove his gas- oline tank from lot 3, block B, Barnhart Tract, to lot 5, block 35, City of Lodi, on South Cherokee street, where he desired to do clothes cleaning. His request was referred to the Public Health and Safety Committee. The request of H. E. Frost for permission to remove two trees from the street fronting his property at No. 20 North Cher- okee street was referred to the Superintendent of streets. F. J. Beaty, of East Lodi Avenue, reported to the Board that several outhouses were not connected with the sewers and were a nuisance to the neighborhood. The Clerk was instructed to notify the Board of Health of the complaint. Clark c Henery Construction Company applied for permis- sion to pave the east one-half of the alley running through block 9, which is the block bounded by Church, Pine, School and Oak streets. Upon motion of Trustee Folendorf, seconded by Trustee Keeney, the permit was granted by the affirmative votes of Trus- tees Folendorf, Keeney, Black, Deaver and Hale. Upon motion of Trustee Keeney, seconded by Trustee. Black, the following resolution authorizing the purchase of a piece of land for a public dumping ground was adopted, the vote upon the motion resulting as follows: Ayes -Trustees, Keeney, Black, Folen- dorf, Deaver and Hale. I) X03 WHERFAS, The City of Lodi is at this time confronted with the need of a suitable piece of land to be used as a dumping ground for rubbish and refuse gathered from both public and private prop- erty in the City of Lodi, and WHEREAS, H. Bechtold has, by a duly executed option filed with the Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi March 8, 1915, of- fered to sell to the City of Lodi, under certain conditions named in said option, for a consideration of Five Hundred Dollars (!500), the following described place of land, together with a right of way -- giving access thereto, towit: All that certain tract or parcel of land in t21e County of San Joaquin, State of Califorria, described as follows: Being a fraction of Section 31, Township 4 :forth, Range 7 East of Mt. Diablo Base and Meridian, beginning at the northwest corner of the land of R. M. Robinson and the railroad right of way, running east along the north lire of said Robinson's land Two Hun- dred (200) feet; thence north and parallel with the railroad right of way Two Hundred feet; thence east to the Kok-Ilumne River; thence along the south bank of said river to the railroad right of way; th,nce south along said right of way to the point of beginning, containing two (2) acres, more or less.. Also a right of way twenty feat wide along the east and north of the said Robinson land from the county road in to the above-described land; now therefore be it RESOLVED, By the Board of Trustees of the City. of Lodi that the needs of the City of Lodi require such piece of land for the purpose named above; and be it further, RESOLVED, That Five hundred Dollars (4500) is hereby ap- propriated from the general fund of the treasury of the City of Lodi to be expended for the purchase of the above-described land and right of way for the use of the City of Lodi as a dumping ground. Upon motion a warrant was ordered drawn for. '450 in favor of H. Bechtold as first payment on land described in the above re,olution. 1. W. Sr_ipes asked permission to run a garbage wagon. No action was taken. The Civic Improvements Committee of the Chamber of Com- merce paib over to the Board of Trustees ;1000, the amount guar- anteed by the Boys' Club toward a municipal swimming tank. Upon motion the amount was accepted in trust for the swImmImg tank fund. Upon motion regularly made, seconded and carried Superin- tendmnt Henning was authorized to lay conduits for light wires on West Elm street according to the engineer's plans submitted. D. BPronio's request for water and sewer facilities was referred to th? Superintendent of Public Utilities. Labor claims amounting to $350.70 were allowed and ordered paid.
