HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 1, 1915400 Municipal Building, Lodi, Cal.,March 1,1915. The Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi convened in regu- lar session at. 8:00 p.m., all members present. President of the Board Hale presided. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Building permits were granted as follows: Congregational Church to remove parsonage from the north i of lots 3 and 4, block 12, to rear of lot 3, block 12,City or Lodi. G. A. Gerlach, private garage at 319 West Oak street. Hopkins & Ferguson, to remove building from 20 West Pine street to the south 50 feet of the north 100 feet of lot 5, block 13, City of Lodi. E. F. Van Vlear, dwelling on lot .7, block 8, Barnhart Tract. The reports of City Marshal Coleman, Plumbing Inspector Henning and Poundmaster Hughes for the month of February were read and ordered filed. Clark & Henery Construction Company applied for permit to pave the east i of alley in block 9 under private contract with property owners. The Clerk was instructed to request the above-named firm to file with the Board a copy of their contract with property owners. Assemblyman Ashley, in a corununica.tion to the Board, gave information as to proposed laws now pending in the Legislature af- fecting cities of the sixth class. stating that copies of all bills and concurrent resolutions may be procured of the Lodi Sentinel or the Chamber of Commerce. Insurance policies covering $3500 on the City Hall were presented and returned to Agent Deaver for the necessary revenue stamps. J. M. McMahon, Ed. Hutchins and W. A. Spooner, the Civic Improvement Committee of the Northern San Joaquin County Chamber of Commerce, presented a written communication to the Board making suggestions and recommendations as to the future paving and beauti- fying of streets by parking the centers, planting flowers and tremas, etc. The communication was ordered filed and the matter was referred to a committee of the whole. The matter of having a clean-up day was also presented by the above-named committee with a request that the Board provide a dumping ground and transportation for rubbish, which was also re- ferred to a committee of the whole. 0. W. Kinney requested the city to extend the sewer and water systems to provide for connections at his place on Lockeford. street. The matter was referred to superintendent Henning for inves- tigation and report. Upon motion the application of Farm Advisor Prank Lyons for permission to use the City Hall for a Farm Bureau meeting Thurs- day evening, March 4th was granted. Rev. Schwimley, W. T. Owens and C. R. Van Buskirk, a com- mittee representingthe Congregational Church, requested the Board to excavate the foundation for a building on the Church property, the dirt to be used in street work. Upon motion of Trustee Black, seconded by Trustee Keeney, the Street Superintendent was authorized to make the excavation, reserving the right to discontinue the work when the soil is not 'available for street work. }Substitute the word suitable. A. Bernardini asked permission of the toard to run a gar- bage wagon. He was informed he would be granted a permit provided he could procure a suitable dumping ground. J. M. McMahon requested the Board to look into the proposi- tion of straightening North School street, between DeForce Avenue and Lockeford street. He was requested to procure Pull information as to the desires of the property owners in that block. An easement granting to the city the right to lay water pipes through Emerson school grounds was not accepted for the reason that it had not been acknowledged before a notary. The Clerk was in- structed to procure the necessary acknowledgments.. The Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company requested the city to sell a one-half interest in one 40 -foot city pole on the easterly line of Main street, south of Lockeford-Locust street alley, which upon motion was granted. The Street Superintendent was authorized to remove dirt from tie property of F. 0. Hale ,at No. 20 West Pine street, under the same conditions as provided in case of the Congregational Church, noted above. 4 Upon motion it was decided to purchase a sink 20 X 30 Inches to be placed in the firemensroom providing the fire de— partment will install the same. Upon motion the bath tub and fixtures to be removed from the firemen ' room were sold to C. A. Black for ;13.00. The Clerk was instructed to prepare a resolution fix— ing the curb lines on West Elm street at fifteen feet in accord— anco with Ordinance No. 77.
