Lodi, Cal., July 13, 1914.
The Board of Trustees of the Cit;, of LOd1 met in adjourned re alar
ses.icn at 7:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order by President Hale.
Upon roll call Trustees Hale, Black and Folendcrf responded,. Trustees
Deaver ar.d,Keeney arrived later and were noted present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
The following building permits were granted:
American. Pure Food Corporation—To build a fence on the property
-of the Lodi -Grape J1i1ce Association.
Charles Frandsen --To build a barr. and store -room on Lot 16, Block
6, Lodi 3arnhart Tract.
• .T. W. Holmes—To build a sleeping porch at 322 West Oak Street.
Henry Firk—To build a. dwelllr.s at 505 Central Avera:e, Lodi Barn-
hart Tract. -•

- .A con:runication was received from_ Clark s Henery Constriction
Co' Yang ,notifying the Board that the City Street ?rove^ent Company
had .ssigne& to,them_their contracts for the pavirg of tst Pine,
street ar.d.. that work would .begin wlthirtwo weeks.
Upon notion the Clerk was instructed to request.Clark & Henery
Construction.•Co.^pany to employ Lodi labor as far as possible on. the
above. mentioned. street improvement. work. - -
A. T. Thomas, in a communication to the Board, offered to paint
all, the .City.fire_ plugs, with. two coats of Pioneer white lead and oil
mixed- with 20 zinc for ,thirty cents each. The, matter was referred to
the Committee of the `!'hole.
•G, A. Gerlach, President of the Volunteer Fire Department re-
ported in writing to the Board that at a. meeting of the Fire Department
-field on_ June 12, 1914, the fcllcwir ; officers were elected: F. R. Stark,
Chief: A.. P. Kru b, 1st Assistant. Chief: A. P.. Wakefiled, Seccnd'Assist-
ant Chief.. Upon motion regularly trade, seconded and carried, election
of the above named officers was approved.
City Marshal Coleman was upon his written request granted a twe-
weeks, leave or absence. •
Superintendent or Public Utilities 1ernir.g rade written report
of his efforts to improve the fficiency of the :ir•' bell, which report
was ordered -filed.
A communication was read and filed from the League of California
Municipalities calling atter.tion to the annual convention to be held
at Monterey during the week beginning October 12, 1914. _
0rdinar_Ce ho. 79, entitled "An Ordinance Prescribing the fi:ties
of P-.ysicians and Others Having the Care.of.t?:e Sick; Establishing
Certain Rules for the Prevention -of 'Disease; Regulatin.the Sale of
and Other Foods; Proriding Por Executive Health Officer; Pre-
scribi_n.E, Pules for, the Collection of manure, Offal and Rubbish: and
Providing for the Carrying Out of a system of Sar.1tation for the City
of Lodi," which was.regularly introduced and placed on passage July 6,
1914, was given final reading and passed by the following vote: Ayes --
Hale, Black, ?Keeney, Folendorf and Deaver. ?does—Non. Absent --None.
. Mr, Charles Tares, of the California League for. Foye Mlle in
Taxation, addressed the Board• at length'ir. favor of the constitutional
amendment to be voted on at the !ovenber, 191)1, election and requested
