Ir regular session of the 3oard of Trustees of the City
of Lodi.the following trustees being present: C.A.B1ack.J.M.Blodgett.
G.E.Lawrence and C.A.Rich. Absent: Trustee F.C.Hale. President
Lawrence presiding.
Toe minutes of the meeting of Dec.22.1913,were reed aed
approved. •
A communication from League ce the matter of "Workmen's
Compensation Insurance" was read and,on notion of Black, seconded by
Blodgett,the clerk was instre cted to send a statement of our payroll
to Industrial Accident Commission and make formal application for
State Insurance.
The mater of surrendering our control over public utility
companies to the State Railroad Commission was referred to Committee
of the Whole.
A letter from F.J._eaty on the matter of sidewalks and A
poles on the sidewalk space was read and referred to Street Committee.
A communication from Sept.Her.ning on the matter of furnish-
ing water to people or: Vine Street outside the cite was reed.and
Supt.Her:iing instructed to inform tee applicants that the city* had
no excess of water and that the Board would soon adopt a policy of
furnishing no water outside the city.
A compo n1cation from New Amsterdam Casualty Company.eneloe-
ing a "Wcrkmen+s Compensation" Policy to cover the city until May 1,
1914.was read and filed.
A cornr.nication from Supt.Henning in regard to rate for
power for Mason Bros.,'?as read.and.on motion of Black.the o :estion
of Txing the rate was left in the hands of Supt.?ienning.
A letter was read from Supt.Menning.stating that foreman
Davis desired a raise of wages from $3 per day to $3.50 and an in-
crease from $10. to $15.per month for use of horse and wagon.. On
motion. of Blac}:.seconded by ?lodgett.it was ordered that Paul Laois
be allowed $3.50 per day wages and S15.00 per month for use of horse
c-mmencing Jan.1.1914.
The report of City Marshal Coleman and of City Plumbing
Inspector Yenning for the month of December.1913,v.as read and filed.
A report from City Engineer Barzellotti covering the period
from Sep.lst. to Dec.3lst..and containing many valuable suggestions.
was read and filed.
The application. of :.Shultz for permission to erect a gar-
age on lot 10 block 5.E.Lodi.was read and granted.
The resignation of Richard Squire as Poundmaster was read.
on motion of Rich.accepted.
D.B.Doepke suggested that the septic tank be fenced and
stock pastured to keep down the weeds. Sug_estion not approved.
He asked that a four geilen can for distillate be purchased.Instruct-
ed to get a requisition from Finance Committee for same.
.essrs.tiolt a -d Montgomery of the Merchants' Association
appeared before the Board soliciting financial aid from the City
again this year in a campaign Of advertising to be conducted this
year. Committee did not know just what lire of advertising would be
followed this year. ?resident Lawrence suggested that the Bord
wo+dld need to know how the money would be expended.and that it would
be well for the Association to formulate a plan.and then come to the
3oard for an aporopriatioe fcr some specific purpose.
Rich sug estee that a light be placed at the corner of
Spree and Sacramento Streets,and Black suggested that one be placed
on S.School Street about six feet this side of the City limits. Cn
motion of Rich.the Supt.was instructed to have street lights placed
at the above points.
Various claims ageinst the City.amounting to 85161.12,
having been approved by the Finance Corr1ttee.were allowed and order-
ed payed.
