HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - August 16, 1920GAJ} - City .Sall, Lodi , •Cal. , August 16, 1920. _ In regular session of 'the Board sof Trustees of the City of Lodi; held tells date, ,there were present Trustees Montgomery, Rich and Hickok. Trustees Hale and Crose absent. Minutes of the special meeting of August 9th were read and approved. The report of Poundmaster Town ley for the period ending August loth was read, approved and orderea filed. Report -of the Plumbing Inspector for the month of July -- was read and ordered filed. . Notice of a hearing before the State Railroad Commission in the matter of Sacramento Gas Company's application for increase in rates in the City of Lodi, to be held in the City Hall August 20th, 1920, was read and ordered filed. Ten applications for building permits were read, granted and ordered filed. - President of the Board of Health Hopkins reported there were mazy complaints on account of the lack of facilities for wet garbage disposal and that the situation during the long continued hot spell had become serious. He urged tie.Board to immediately formulate a plan to have all garbage in the City c ollected and removed at least twice a week during the Summer months-. Upon motion of Trustee Ric4, seconded by Trustee Hickok, the City Clerd was instructed to advertise for proposals to collect and dispose of all the wet garbage in the City. In the matter of to election of a Board of _Freeholders, which had been proposed by the school authorities, a communication was received from the U.S.Census Bureau giving the population of the City of Lodi as 4850; also a communication from Job Wood Jr., Deputy State Supt. of Public Instruction, giving his views on the management of public schools under a special city charter was read and ordered filed. Principal R. J. Custer explained some phases of conditions under a charter government in relation to the State laws governing the school System. The Clerk was instructed to com— municate with various charter cities requesting information as to - the advantages to be derived from the adoption of a special charter. The official bonds of Richard B. McClure as Marshal and • Superintendent of Streets were presented, approved by the Presi— dent of the Board, and ordered filed in the City Clerk's office. W. X. Gregg, W. G. Macke, and others protested against the building of a fruit packing shed at the corner of Lodi Avenue and Cherokee'Lane, claiming it wogld be detrimental to that resi— dential district. Trustee Rich moved, seconded by Trustee Hickok, that the Superir_tenden_t of Public Utilities be instructed to immediately proceed' to install all sewers, catch basins, conduits, etc., ne— cessary to prepare for the paving of that portion of Elm Street west of the East line of Hutchins Street. The foregoing motion was adopted by the affirmative votes of all members of the Board present. Miscellaneous bills amounting to $1297.51, having been passed by the auditing committee, were allowed and ordered paid. The Board adjourned. Attest: 2X(1.41va City Clerk.
