Monday, July 3d, 1922.
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi
convened at 8 P.M. on the date and at the place above written; Trustees
Hale, Hickok, Mettler and Shattuck were present, Trustee Rich absent.
The minutes of the regular meeting of June 5th, the adjourned. regul-
ar meeting of June 12, the regular meetings of June 19th and the ad-
journed meeting of June 26th were read and approved after the Clerk
was instructed to correct the minutes of June 5th by the addition of .
a statement in the first paragraph thereof that "'P. 0. Hale was chosen
President pro tem."
Under the head. of Public Bearings & Protests,, Mr. D. D. Rodgers
of the Associated Oil Company addressed the Board in support of the
application of ''a is Company for permission to construct an oil and gaso-
line service station on the railroad reservation at the Northeast cor-
ner of Pine and. Sacramento Streets; action was postponed until the
consideration of building permits were before the 3ca:rd.
Ltty C. N. Gannon then addressed the Board oonceming the park
spaces on Locust Street, West of Cordier Street, but the contract
being already let, he was informed that the matter could be adjust-
ed only on an agreement being reached between the property owners con-
cerned and the contractors.
:'i. H. Grawden protested. against the loud. and continuous whistling
of Southern Pacific engines in the city ,and against the blockade of
North Sacramento Street near Elm on arrival of the 8 A.M. Central
California Traction Company car, which unloads express matter at this
point. City Attorney Steele said that he already had the unnecessary
whistling in mini and would look up the powers of the City in this
matter.
As to the congestion caused by the Central California Traction
Company, the Board instructed the Marshal to warn Company employees
that the obstruction to traffic must cease era also that the passing
of street cars -chile loading or unloading passengers must be stopped.
This being the date set by the Clerk for the Board to receive
proposals for the improvement a5' Sacramento Street under Resolution
of Intention No. 58, the members present proceeded to open and pub-
licly declare the bids received. Only one proposal was submitted.,
that of Clark & Henery Company, bidding for grading at 2 cents, for
paving at 18z cents, for gutter at 26 cents (all per square foot) ,
and for curbing at 50cents per lineal foot. The proposal being in
identical amounts as bid. and accepted on the other streets now under
way, the Bond awarded the contract for the work to the bidder by
the passage of Resolution of Award No. 2,:4 by the foliovring vote:

The award. of t'.e printing of the City for the ensuing fiscal
year was now made after canvass of bids received. from The Lodi Sentin-
el and the Lodi News; The Sentinel bidding 40 cents per column inch
for the first insertion art 25 cents for each subsequent insertion;
The News 25 cents for first run and 15 cents for subsequent publica-
ti:dns. The printing was awarded to The Lodi News by passage of
Resolution of Award N. ;a J by the following vote:
AYES: Hale, Mettler, Hickok, Shattuck
NOES: None
ABSENT: Trustee Rich.
City Attorney G. M. Steele, at the solicitation of Mr. H. E.
Welch, brout 'up the matter of damage to the concrete building of
the Beckman, Welch.Thompson Company on the alleysc cornering at tin
center of Block 16, stating that the building was cracking since the
Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company had. cut through the East and
West alley and installed conduit. This matter wasreferrea by the
President to the Committee on Public utilities for investigation and.
report.
On motion of Trustee Hickok, sec ended by Trustee Mettler, eleven
building permits, including that of the Associated Oil Company herein
previously referred to, aggregating 4,1/4,48,250 were granted as applied.
for. President of the Board., J. 1. Shattuck spoke of the obstructions
maintained 'oy the contractor erecting the Somans Building at the cor-
ner of Lee Ave. and Pine Street. The Marshal was instructed. to have
the contractor remove the frame structures blocking the street at
this place.
Trustee "settler mentioned an accumulation of sane maintained
by D. ill. Aronhal t on School Street near De2orc•_- Avenue; the i:ars::al
was aZSO instructed to have this removed.

sign: boards from Lodi Avenue and Sacramento Street to the South one-
half of Lots 13, 14, and 15 in Block 26 City of Lodi. Permission
was -_denied as new location is in the fire ^�its.
Ordinance ;o. 134 entitled "An Ordinance Providing that the
City of Lodi, its agents or employees, stall have the exclusive
rizht" to aa.ther era collect garbage in said City, and providing
_ fees for collection thereof", .has zLvan second reading and passed
on motion of Trustee Bale.

Ordinance No. 133 entitled ":in Ordinance relatinP to the Parking
of Automobiles x -d Trucks in the City of Lodi” was read for the sec-
ond time, but its adoption .ras postponed pending the addition of
several clauses.

The City Engineer was instracted to survey the *Nest City Limit
between Loc'rford Street and Daisy venue so as to determine the loca-
tion of Fred Lind's house he 1<?`IinP_ applied for :rater service.
Reports for the month of Jtt,.e _rm the City Poundmaster, City
iIarsh-1 and Tire Chief, t:_e latter containing an i_�•. e_ntor;y of equip-
ment, were read and ordered filed.
The Clark then read the written resignation of Trustee
Rich, tha same being as
Lodi, June 26, 1922.

On motion of Trustee Hickok,seernded by Trustee ilettler, it

In the matter of taw application of eonsultin? Engineer Clyde
Smith for expenses for a trip to Houston, Texas, it was decided
that the benefits to be derived did not warrant the exrenditure alba
t'r_s clerk .vas instructed to so inf orm Ur. Smith.
At the unanimous order of she 3oard, the application of
Moyakis to conduct a card room at 3 E. Locust was denied.
Decision No. 10613 of the State Railroad Commission in the mst-
ter of the franchise of -2. J. Schleif for a spur track :las received
and ordered filed.
The date of June 26th, beirR the date set by Resolution tio.285
adopted June 5th for receiving bids for the bonds issued to repre-
sent the unpaid assesmients on Lockford street, (Res olntion of Inten-
tion No.41), was that of a meeting adjourned on account of no quorum,
and the Clea'_: re Fortin; that no ?s^orosals for the bonds has been
received up to that date, the 3oard proceeded at this ti -,e to award
the bonds to the contractor by the passage of Resolution No. 294.
