The minutes of .uKust 22_':i. and August 26th. ..'ore road and
approved without correction.
The clerk:'under direction of the City Engineer and by order
of the Board gi,'en_on. August 22nd, raving set this date for the recept-
ion of proposals for the furnishing of material and the constructing
of storm sewers on Sacramento,Elm,a_nd Church Streets, the following
persons submitted bids in proper form,

'redrickson Bros; Merced Concrete Pipe Co.; T. .Clinch.
Owing to the technical nature of the matters involved, this
award was delayed until 1.P.H. of Sept 7,1921 in order that the eng-
ineer might review the propositions submitted and submit recommendation.
A check covering returned premiums paid and divi'ends earned
on the City's compensation insurance policy in the amount -of $489.87
was received and ordered paid into the treasury.
Communizations from i.C.Tucker and A.L.Levthsky in the ratter
of the tearing up of North Sacramento Street opposite the shed of the
California Almond Amro 'ers Exchange were Ordered filed, this matter
having been 'definitely settled.
communication from J.3. opkins relative to unnecessary
Ci istling Of S.P.loconotives was read and the City Attorne$ advised
the Board that he had the matter under consideration:
A letter from to Daily Report stating that they could not
promise better service in the matter of transfers of real property
in the city .ias read and the clerk instructed to obtain prices on
better service.
The report of R.3.L:cClure, City Marshal, shat, was read and order-
ed filed.
The application of Lester Salidbury was likewise ordered to
be filed, he having applied for the position of care-taker and driver
of the new fire truck.
letter from the State Railroad Commission regarding fluct-
uations in voltage was read, no action taken.
On application properly made and accompanied by the consent
of bondsmen, the Clam: & Revery Construction_ Company was granted an
extension of 60 days time in which to complete the paving of Main
Street and Seaton Avenue.
On motion of Trustee Rich seconded by True-tee Hale, bills
to the amount of $37,371.15 were allowed as audited and ordered paid.
The board then proceeded to the consideration of the budget
for -the nett year and the fixing of the tax rate. After careful con=
sideration of the needs of the city and its available revenues, the
rate was fixed at the sum of $1.65 on each $100.00 of assessed val-
uation on motion of Trustee Hale seconded by Trustee Crose, instructing
the Clerk:_to-prevane_-:ena :submit •an. or.ditanoe-therefore t'o be -passed at
.t:^e adjourned meeting to be held September 12th.
