On the day and date above written, the Board of Trustees of
the City of Lodi met in regular session at 8.00 o'clock P.M. and
on call of the roll, Trustees, !ontgomery,Crose,Hickok and Rich
were present; Trustee Hale out of the city.

and 26th. were read and approve&
This being the day,d.ate and hour set by motion and advertise-
ment for the opening of bids on the printing of the city for one
year; bids were received from The Lodi Printing Co.,The Lodi News,
and The Lodi Sentinel. Owing to the manner in which the estimates
;;ere submitted, this matter was laid over for one week. The prop-
osals received were in the following amounts: The Lodi Printing
Company offered to do the job printing of the city at a discount
of 22% from list price of the California Typothetae: The Lodi Sent-
inel offered the prices obtained by the County of San Joaquin or
the prices set by the San Joaquin County Printing Association with
a guarantee of good printing on goo& stock and offered to protect
the city against a price decline; in the matter of printing and
publishing, The Lodi News offered to comply with the items set
forth in the call for bids and do the printing of the city at a
cost of 40¢ per column inch for the first insertion with a charge
of 25d per col. inch for subsequent insertions, The Lodi Sentinel
made an offer to ,print and publish at a cost of 50¢ for the first
insertion and 35e for the next three insertions,20d for the next
three and 10; for all publications subsequent to the seventh.
Trustee Crose, seconded by Trustee Hickok, introduced the
following resolution:
RESOLUTION ]To.135
Resolved that the Engineer of the City of Lodi be, and he is
hereby ordered to prepare plans and specifications for the following
work to be done and improvement to be made in said city, to -wit: -
For the improvement of the unpaved portion of Oak Street lying
between Sacramento Street and the tracks of the Southern Pacific
Railroad Company by paving the same and constructing concrete curbs
and gutters.
The above Resolution No.135 was thereupon adopted by the follow-
ing vote, to -wit: -
Ayes, Trustees, Crose,Hickok,Rich and Montgomery
Noes, ^ None
Absent, " Hale
The reports of the Fire Chief and City Marshal were received,
read and ordered filed. The Fire Chief reported verbally in the
matter of the partly destroyed house at the corner of Pleasant and
Lockeford Streets and the clerk was instructed to obtain the address
of the owner and write him stating that the building should be
taken down.
In the matter of the petition filed requesting the board to
rescind Ordinance 13o.118 , the clerk made report that as the petit-
ion contained but 129'names and that as a certificate of the County
Clerk stated that there were 1730 registered electors in the city
on April 25th, the number of signatures was so much less than the
required number that he had not found it necessary to verify the
signatures as to their being those of.qualified electors; Trustee
Crose then introduced the following resolution: -
RESOLUTION NO. 136
IN THE MATTER OF THE PETITION PROTESTING THE ADOPTION Or
ORDINANCE NO, 116.
WHEREAS, on the 25th day of April A.D.1921, there was filed
with this Board of Trustees a Petition protesting the passing and
adoption of Ordinance No.118: and
WHEREAS. said Petition was referred to the Clerk of the City
of Lodi for verification;' and
'::HEREAS, it a -=pears from'his report filed herein and from tie
certificate of the Clerk of the County of San Joaquin at the time
said petition was filed, to -:-it:- said 25th. day of April A.D.1921,
the number of registered electors in the City of Lodi ::as 1730; and
WHEREAS, the minimum number of electors t make said petition
effective sh,uld have been 173; and
a -:pears from said petition that it is signed by 129
electors of the City of Lodi and no more, -
HEREFORE, be it resolved that said petition is insufficient
and this Board so finds and declares; and, further, that Said Ord-

The foregoing Resolution No. 136 was.thereupon-adopted by the
following vote, to -wit: -
.Ayes:. Trustees Crose,Hickok,Rieh and Montgomery
Noes: None
Absent: " Hale
The matter of J.Manginini's application for permission to
operate a scavenger wagon in'the City was postponed for one week.
Major W.E.Garrison addressed the board in regard to this application.
The application of the Pao. Tel & Tel. Company to purchase
one-half interest in certain poles was referred to the Supt. Public
Utilities with instruction that he make his recommel3.ation on Tues-
day the 10th.
Eight building permits granted for buildings estimated to
cost $30,325
The consideration of bids on pipe,fittings,valves and hyd-
rants was then taken up: award on pipe,gate-valves and fittings was
deferred until the 5th. inst.
In the matter of fire hydrants, the board having received
positive information that these could be purchased in the open market
cheaper than at the prices ordered, Trustee Crose introduced the
following resolution,
RESOLUTION NO. 137
Resolved that all bids on fire hydrants be rejected and the
same purchased in the open market, bidders certified checks to be
returned to the senders.
The above resolution No.137 was thereupon adopted by the fol-
lowing vote, to -wit: -
Ayes, Trustees, Crose,Hickok,Rich, and Montgomery
Noes, if None.
Absent, " Hale.
The City Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and spec-
ifications for the improvement of the following streets:-
Lockeford Street from 'Nest Line of S.P.Co. to West Line of
Pleasant Avenue.
Pleasant Avenue from the South line of Lockeford Street to
the North Line of Lodi Avenue.
E.Elm Street .from the East Line of Main Street to the 'Nest
Line of Cherokee Lane
Church Street from the North Line of Sturla Street to the
Northerly City Limits.
Trustee Crose addressed the board regarding the separation of
the offices of City Marshal and Superintendent of Streets owing to the
increasing duties of the offices.
The bill of the Stockton & Mokelumne Canal Company for the
Construction of one of the syphons on their canals was referred to
the Finance Committee as it was in excess of the amount stated in the
agreement with the company.
On motion of Trustee Rich, seconded by Trustee:Hickok, and
unanimously carried, bills to the amount of 08832.33 having been
approved by the Finance Committee were ordered paid.
At the order of the President, none dissenting, the board
then adjourned until 1.45 P.M. Thursday May 5th. 1921

According to adjournment taken from the regular meeting of
Mag 2nd., the Board convened at 1,45 P.M. and on call of the roll
there were present Trustees, Montgomery, Crose,Hiekok, and Rich,
Trustee.Hale absent.being out of the city.
The minutes of the regular meeting of May 2nd. were read and
approved.
