Cctober 18, 1937.
The City Owancil of the City of Lodi met in
-- re_ular session at 3:00 o'clocs ^.:d. of 11ondaJ, October 19,
1937. Councilmen, Clark, Graffi;na, Spccner, :+eine and Steele
present, none absent.
The -inutes of the regular meeting held October
4th and that of the special meeting held October 15th
were read, a_proved as read and so indorsed by the cayor.
Yr. Fred N. Spieker -man addressed the Council in
retard to the o: ening of Tokay Street and Church Street and
after consideration of the matter, the City Clerk and City
gn=ineer were directed to proceed at once with the opening
of t.ese streets.
The City E gineer, Clinton ;penning, stated that
;rir. W. G. '.:icke would like a commitment from the City Council
In regard to the onenin of Cai Street and walnut Street
and of the alley between these streets in Lodi Trotting Park
for a distance of approximately 200 feet easterly from
Cherokee Lane. ttr. Henning was directed to inform Yr. �`:icke
that the Co,.rcil was willing that these streets be opened
for this distance at the present ti=e.
The report of the City Clerk and that o -f the City
Treasurer for the quarter ended Septe=ber 30, 1937 were
presented b;, the Clerk and ordered referred to the Committee
on Fir__.nce and Revenue.
Five applications for business licenses hos.
8531 to and incl -:ding 3536 were ordered granted on motion of
Cc--ancilman Clark, seconded by Co,_mcil:nar_ Graffigna,
Cr_ =otion of "ayor Steele, seccr-ded 737 Co::r_cilman
the Clerk was directed to apply to Harvey 3A. Odell,
Sheriff for San Joaquin County for the appoint=ent of .1r.
William ... Cline as a special deputy sheriff.
The Clerk read a letter fro=. r+ir. 1. F. Fle=ing,
jr., 'Treasurer of the Electric Fara and Home ilutho±ity
inquiring if any progress had been :wade in regard to the
execution of a contract between :;t_�rityy and the City
for the financing of sales of electrical =erc handise. P.",r.
John A. `enninx, Superintendent of Public utilities,
was authorized to contact local finance co=wanies and see
what their attitude would be in regards to the City taking
up this proposition.

"-he Clerk reported'.. -.at i r. George olenske, Chief
of the :ire Department desired to :;urchase 1200 feet of 22
inch fire 'nose and 300 feet of 11 inch hose. At the
order of the :M=ayor, this utter was referred to the Cc==ittee _
on ;'ublic Health arra safety.
On motion of �;our_ci1:_an-deihe, seconded by Councilman
Spooner the followin7 chan,Ses were made in the salaries paid
in the City Cler'k's office.
1-Irs. Effie Griffin from 150.00 to 185.00
Hiss ..ellie Griffith from 123.00 to 13 .00
,ar^raret Blakely from 85.00 to 95.00
The latter to secure a surety bond of w1,000.00. !:etion carried.
.aycr Steele read a co _-nunication from the
1ev. A. n. --ocne endorsing the idea of the public wood rile.
Yr. Steele stated that he desired to pursue this idea further.
The 11ayor also read a ccm-munication in regard to
the coming unemployment census to be taken in this City. ;lith
the assistance of the other :-embers of the Co-incil present,
the, :iayo_ comyliled a t' --.a_.., : „' o.' ;omritteemen to assist
in a!:1nZ this census.
No further business appearing at this time the
Council t.er_ adjourned at 10:15 o'clock on motion of
CounciL7an ;leihe, seconded by CoLmcilman Graffigr_a.
