August 16, 1937 The City Council of the City of Lodi met in regular session at 8:00 o'clock P.M. of Monday, August 16, 1937; Councilmen Clark, Graffigna, Spooner, Neihe and Steele present, none absent. The minutes of the last regular meeting held August 2, 1937 were read, approved as read and so indorsed by the Layor. Messrs. Robert E. Rion, W. J. Coffield, and Henry F. Ellis trustees of the Lodi Public Library appeared before the Council and presented a proposed budget of that institution for the fiscal year 1937-38. Mr. Robert H. Rion explained the details of the budget and at the order of the Mayor the same was ordered submitted for consideration. A petition signed by twelve (12) purported residents of the territory comprised of the Beckman Subdivision, asking that this tract be annexed to the City of Lodi was received, read and at the order of the Mayor ordered referred to the City Clerk. The Clerk to report on the sufficiency of the signatures. A communication from Mr. Lester S. Ready in regard to new electric rates obtained through the cooperation of the City of Lodi and other cities operating their own distribution systems was received and ordered filed, the Councilmen having all ready received carbon copies from the City Clerk. Ten building permits Nos. 1749 to and including No. 1758 for structures to cost $7,015 were ordered granted. Business licenses Nos. 8500 to and including 8505 according to applications on file with the City Clerk were ordered granted on motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Councilmen A'ieihe. Claims No. 29760.to and including No. 29833 in the total amount of $3,623.67 as approved by the Finance Committee were allowed and ordered granted on motion of Councilman Clark, seconded by Councilman Aeihe. At the order of the 2Iayor the City Council was called into executive session at 9:00 o'clock P.M. and so continued until 9:30 o'clock P.M. when regular session was resumed. on motion of Councilmen Weihe. seconded by Councilman Clark, the City Council then adjourned to and until 8:00 o'clock P.M. of Tuesday, September 7. 1937, the first Monday in September being a holiday (Labor Day).
