The it.-- Council of the City of Lodi net in regular meeting ng at
5:00 o'clock F.E. of Monday, Tul: 6, 1937. Councilmen Clark, Craffigra,
7leihe and Steele .resent, Council an Spooner absent.
The minutes of the last meeting held Tune 21, 1937 were read,
approved as read and so tedcrsed by the payor.
Several persons appearing at this time to protest against the
granting of en:r licenses to Thomas T. Kelly to operate a dance hall at
225 line Street. The Clerkread :.. Kelly's application for a dance permit
as filed with hi:_. Mr. 3urt-i. Cole as spokesman for the group spoke
against the __._ting of the ermit. Several others ;;oined Mr. Cole
alleging that the premises were in a residential district and would become
a nuisance if occupied by a dance hall. LT. Frank Barren as attorney for
._. Kell-- addressed the Council in favor of granting the perriit. He stated
that Mr. Kelly did not intend to ccnduct a dance hall in any sense of the
word end that he would `have a first-class restaurant. Mr. Kelly also
addressed the Ccuncil saying that the space for dancing would be very- stall
and there would be no .esuz_r,tioc of the nuisance heretofore existing et
this location, it 'being under a different prcprietcr. she Mayor ordered
the .:tetter submitted.
The City Clef,: reported due publication of the Notice of Hearing
of the proposed zoning ordinance and the Council proceeded to hear objections
end suggestions on the proposed crdir.,-rce. Mr. Edward Hutchins and L.r. Earl
Young, owning or representing owners of property cn the South side of line
Street ";lest of Futchins Street protested against the restrictions as to
size of lots for s_egle family dwellings. Mr. H. E. Ta-ueth consulting
Planning engineer of the Council, informed these gentlemen that there was
ample -variation in the ordinunoe to take care of all the lots involved.

ordered introduced and laid over for a period of not less than five days .
This was done by the assenting votes of Councilmen Craffigna, :7eihe, Clark
and Steele; :Toes,.none; Absent, Councilman Spooner.
The Clerk also reported due Publication of a notice inviting
sealed proposals for the legal publication of the City for the fiscal year
ending Tune 30, 1938. Proposals were received from the Lodi Times end the
Lodi News -Sentinel. Owing to the difficulty of comparing these two proposals
the :;a-ror ordered them taken under consideration until the date of the next
meeting.
I. petition from all but one owner in the 420 block of Forrest
Avenue asking that curbs and gutters be installed under a Works Progress
Administration project along this block was received and filed. At the
directicn of the Layer this ^yeti1ion was referred to the City Lngineer,
also the matter of the oral a Plication of Charles Peiraro and Elbert
?asslnk and others who live beyond the city limits but desire curbs and
gutters in front of their rrooerty.
The quarterly resort end the annual report of the Lodi 7olunteer

elected Fire _ Chief, Mr. M. R. .nal nell,First Assistant Fire Chief and
Matt Rodacker as Second Assistant Tire Chief was received and read. On
motion of Councilman Cra'figna seconded by Councilman ::eihe, the elected
officers were approved as officers of this department.

appoint-zent ^as confi=ed by the adoution of Resolution No. 920.

motion of Councilman Clark, seconded by Councilran 3raffigna.

annual vacation period effective during this month.
L;r. John A. Henning addressed the Council in regard to the
construction of the steel super -structure for an outdoor sub -station at
.'pin and Locust Streets, stating that he was ready to sign an a.reement

nR; considerable confusion exists owing to the name of
Cordier Street being applied to that street from Lodi Avenue to Locust
Street and from Locust Street to the North City Linits, the same street
is called California Street;

that said street shall be hereafter called Cordier street from its
Southerly termination at Lodi k7enue to the North bounder_. line of this
City;
The City Clerk is hereby directed to make and certify to
a copy of this R=solution and record the sane with the County Recorder
