The City Council of the City of Lodi met in regular meeting at 8:00 o'clock P.M. of Monday, February 1, 1937. Councilmen, Clark, Graffigna, Spooner, Weihe and Steele present; none absent. The minutes of the last meeting held January 18, 1937 Were read, approved as read, and so indorsed by the Mayor. No persons appearing at this time the order of Public Hearings was passed and the Council proceeded to hear communications and reports. The Clerk read a notice of additional allocation of the one- quarter cent gasoline tax for major streets from the local Division of Highways, also three legislative bulletins by the League of California lLunieipalities from their headquarters in Sacramento, one informing the Council of the reinactment of the "in lieu tax on automobiles", another relating to the efforts of the League to have a uniform method of procedure Trovided for the granting of Public Utilities franchises, and another regarding the League's bill to limit the liability of the City in regard to accidents occurring by result of defective streets and sidewalks. A letter was received from Mr. Wallace H. Street, Deputy Agricultural Commissioner in regard to diseases attacking oriental planes in the Bath House Park. No action taken. The report of the Chief of Police for the month of January and that of the City Poundmaster for the same period were received, read and ordered filed. Applications for business licenses Nos. 299 to and including 369 were ordered approved on motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Councilman Weihe. A petition was received, signed by Ed Kurtz and others asking that the City apply to the Public Works Administration for a project to install curbs and gutters in the Bewley Suburban Acres. On motion of Councilman Spooner, seconded by Councilman Graffigna, the petition was referred to the City Engineer. Applications for building permits Nos. 1627 to and including 1632 were allowed and ordered granted, the application of Speros Stathatos to construct a combination garage and flat building at 118 West Elm Street (application No. 1633) was refused as the proposed building did not comply with Section 2 of Ordinence No. 122. The City Clerk submitted a proposal from the Burroughs Adding Machine Company for the installation of new bookkeeping equipment. At the direction of the Mayor no•action was taken as he thought it best to assemble the different proposals for capital expenditures before any one item was approved. The Clerk read a letter addressed to Mr. John A. Henning from the department of Public Utilities at Palo Alto in regard to the proceedings undertaken to obtain reductions in the Schedule P-6 applying to electric bills rendered the City of Lodi. Mr. Henning was informed that the City was still willing to go ahead by paying its pro -rata share of the cost of having a rehearing before the State Railroad Commissiob. Ordinance No. 232 entitled "AN ORDINANCE REQUIRING THAT ALL CONDENS!D, S7APORATE AND DRL!D MILE,, BUTTER, CHEESE, OR CTTMR DAIRY PRODUCTS, iNTI:NDED FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION, SHALL HAT' PRINTED UPON EACH AND hv,iaty CL4;T:INER OR PACT.(,`!, THE WORDS, "THIS PRODUCT IS PRODUCED FROM NODI -REACTING TUBERCULIN TESTED OOWS" OR, "1fiIS PRODUCT IS NOT PRODUCED FROM NON -REACTING TUBMICUISN TESTED ZONAS", AND PROVIDING FOR PENALTIES FOR VIOLATION THEEEOF," was introduced on motion of Councilman Weihe, seconded by Councilman Graffigna, and by the same motion laid over for the statutory period of not less than five days. 398 COUNCIL CHAMBERS . -CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI Claims No. 28232 to and including No. 28370 in the total amount of x$9,760.20 as approved by the Finance Committee were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman «eihe, seconded by Council:sn Spooner. The Council them turned to the consideration of the necessity of employing a relief driver in the Fire Department, and at the order of the Mayor this matter was referred to -the Committee on Public Health and Safety to report to the Council on February 15, 1937. No further business appearing the meeting adjourned on motion of Ccuneilman Weihe, none dissenting.
