The City Council of the City of Lodi met in regular session at 8:00 o'clock P. M. on Monday, June 15, 1935, Councilmen Clark, Graffigna, Spooner and ifeihe present on roll call; Mayor Steele absent. On motion of Councilman Graffigna, seconded by Councilman Clark, and unanimously carried, Mr. Spooner was chosen Mayor protem and opened the meeting. Mike Tortarelli and Catherine Tortorelli, his wife being present Mr. Tortorelli addressed the Board regarding their application for permis- slon to build a temporary dwelling at 822 South School Street. After considerable discussion, the Council concluded that it had no power to deny this permit and informed Mr. Tortorelli that the permit would be granted in due course. The minutes of the regular meeting of June 1, 1936 were read, approved as read and so indorsed by the Mayor protem. Ordinance No. 226 entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 220 OF THE CITY OF LCDI BY EXEMPTING UNDERTAKING ESTABLISHMENTS, HOSPITALS, SANITARIUMS AND TH3 TR3nTUENT OF SICK PERSONS OR ANIMALS THEREFROM." having been regularly introduced at the regular meeting of June 1, 1.936 was again read at length by the Clerk and considered by the Council. Ordinance No. 226 was then finally passed and adopted and ordered to print by the following vote: Ayes: Councilmen, Graffigna, Weihe, Clark, and -Spooner, Councilmen Steele Absent. Ordinance No. 224 entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 154 OF THE CITY OF LODI BY PROVIDING THE CONDITIONS UNDER WHICH CATS MAY BE KEPT IN SAID CITY," was introduced on motion of Councilman Graffigna seconded by Councilmen Weihe and read at length by the Clerk and by the same motion this ordinance was laid over for the statutory period of not less than five days on the following record vote: Ayes: Councilmen Graffigna, Weihe, Clark, and Spooner, Noes: Councilmen, None Absent: Councilman Steele. Applications for several Works Progress Administration Projects were authorized by the adoption of Resolution 849. RESOLUTION NO. 849 RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Lodi, County of San Joaquin, State of California: That the Mayor of this City be, and he is hereby authorized and directed to make application to the (forks Progress Administration for the approval of the following proposed (forks Progress Administration Projects, and that the City Clerk be, and he is hereby directed to certify to such papers as may be necessary to put these projects into operation, the said Mayor and said City Clerk to act as Sponsor's Agent and Fiscal Officer respectively: follows: The projects for which application is herein authorized are es (1) Installation of Curb and Gutters on South side of Louie Avenue between School and Church Streets. (2) Installation of Curb and Gutters on Harold Street between Garfield Avenue and Central Avenue. (3) Installation of Curb and Gutters on First Street (4) Installation of Street Lighting System on Olive Court in accordance with plans of Superintendent John A. Henning. Councilmen 340 COUNCIL CHAMBERS - - CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI The foregoing Resolution No. 849 was then passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen, Clark, Weihe, Graffigna and Spooner -- NOES: Councilmen, None ABSENT: Councilmen, Steele (Mayor) It appearing that the contract for public printing would expire on June 30, 1936, the renewal of the existing contract was authorized by the adoption of Resolution No. 850. RESOLUTION NO. 850 WHEREAS this City Council is required by law to contract annually for the publication of all legal notices required to be published In a newspaper of general circulation published and printed in this City, and, WHEF-EAS this City Council finds and determines that there is but one newspaper legally qualified as a newspaper of general circulation, said paper being the Lodi News -Sentinel, and, WHEREAS the former contract for such legal publication made and entered into with the Lodi News -Sentinel will expire on the Thirtieth day of June, 1936 and this Council la required to enter into such contract for the period of the fiscal year which fiscal year in this City ends June 30, 1437; BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor be, and he is hereby authorized to enter into a contract with the Lodi News -Sentinel for the public printing named in Section 874 of the Municipal Corporation Bill for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1937. A copy of the Agreement herein authorized is annexed hereto and made a part hereof for all purposes. The foregoing Resolution No. 850 was then passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen, Graffigna, Weihe, Clark, Spooner NOES: Councilmen, None ABSENT: Councilman, Steele (Mayor) Seven building permits, applications No. 1486 to 1492 Inclusive for structures to cost $12,800.00 were allowed and ordered granted at the order of the Mayor. On motion of Councilman Clark, seconded by Councilman Graffigne. and carried the report of special.auditor A. F. Harrison which was filed with the Board on the First day of June, 1936, was ordered approved. Mayor Steele appeared at this time and took his seat in the Council and presided over the meeting from that time on. In the matter of the purchase of additional lands on the West and South side of the Lake Park, the Council was tendered a deed from Mr. L. T. Mason and wife but owing to several exceptions made in the prelimi:s ry reeot'd of the deed, its acquisition was deferred until a future meeting. Claims Nos. 26517 to and including 26627 for bills approved by the Finance Committee in the amount of $5,960.29 were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Spooner, seconded by Councilman Weihe. Mr. Steele announced at this time that he was ready to appoint the member of the recently constituted City Plmaing Commission and confirmation of these appointments was made by the adoption of Resolution No. 851. 341 COUNCIL CHAMBERS -- CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL -- CITY OF LODI RESOLUTION NO. 851 RESOLUTION CONFIRMING A?POINTIENT OF NEZ3RS OF THE LODI CITY PLANNING COMMISSION. WHEREAS, the Mayor of this City has this day submitted the names of the following persons with his recommendation that they be appointed members of the Lodi City Fianain" Commission: Mrs. Faith Coffleld 26 South Creptscent Ave. Mrs. Alma Ueeske 426 Vest Elm Street Mr. Charles L. Kobes 603 fest Pine Street Mr. Charles M. Jones 319 Nest Oak Street Mr. George Schmledt 740 South Central Ave. Dr. Reymond L. Owens 1041 South Central Ave. Also, that .the following officers and employees of the City be designated and appointed ex -officio members of said Commission: Yr. Emil F. Graffigna From the City Council Mr. Clinton Henning Representing the City Engineer's Office Mr. J. F. Blakely From the City Clerk -Assessors Office. THRREFORE, be it resolved that this City Council does hereby approve the recommendation of the Mayor, and seid persons and officers are each confirmed as the regularly appointed members of the City Planning Commission of the City of Lodi, to hold office from and after the Ist deny of July, 1936 for such period and length of time as may be provided by statute and ordinance. The foregoing Resolution No. 852 was then passed and adopted by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen, 8eihe, Spooner, Clark, Graffigna and Steele NOES: Councilmen, None ABS9%T: Councilmen, None At the order of the Mayor, none dissenting, the City Council adjourned to and until 8:00 olclock P. u.. of Monday, June 22, 1936.
