The City Council of the City of Lod1'met In regular reettne
at 8:CO o'clock P. Y. January 3, 1935. The meetine was culled to order
by the ldnyor. Councilmen Clark, _reffiena, Spooner, Weihe, and
Steele °resent, None absent.
The minutes of the regular meeting of Decenber 15, 1935
were read, approved as read end so indorsed by the Mayor.
P,:b11c Hearings: Mr. L. C. Lively appeared before the
Council renresenttra seven (T;cerpenters who claimed that they had
been separated from their jobs on the Armory and put in lesser paid
posltions,while out of torn carpenters had been retained on the job.
Mr. C. 7). Henning In charge of the Armory Project stated that the
personnel of the em,,-.lyyees of the 74. P. H. otos not controlled by the
City and that he had done all that was possible to keep local labor
on the Project. Mr. Hennlna said that he was very w1111ne to intercede
with the n. ?. A. authorities In Stoc;:ton and have any skilled workmen
reinstated if the W. F. A. saw fit to d) so.
Communications: The Clerk reed a letter from i. B. Holten,
?ree1dent of the Central Valley Branch of the League of California
Municipalities °Rhine a meeting of that Dlvtstor, to be held in Stockton
on Januar 13, 1936 at Hotel Stockton. The Mayor asked that all
officers of tho City both elective and appointive try and be present
and show their Interest.
A letter from the Kelloeg Sales Company In regard to the
Lodi Ordinance prohibiting the throvine of samples on private premises.
The clerk wes instructed to write the Kellogg People and tell them
that the 1 -cel Ordinance only prohibits the throwing of edvertising
materiels and samples, but they could be delivered to each house-
holder without breaking the law.
The report of the Chief of Police for the month of December
and that of the City Poundmaster for the sane month were received,
reed a*e ordered file'.
The Chief of the Fire Depertaent and Secretary of the same
also filed their ^uarterly reports for the months of October, November,
and December. 'This report was also ordered filed.
The Chief of Police, C. S. Jackson. applied by letter for
the purchase of two automobiles for the use of the Police Department,
stettne that it wes his oolr.lon that City -owned cars could be operated
more °hearty end more efficiently than under the present system of
1 allowire officers automobile allowances. 0n motion of Councilman
Srooner, seconded by Councilman Graffigna, the Clerk was directed to
advertise for bids for the two automobiles re.uested. Specifications
therefore to be approved by the Chief of Police.
Mr. J. E. Hopkins, City Judge of the City of Lodi, applied
by letter for the restoration of his salary to the sum of $100.00
per month stating that the duties of the office hes more than trebled.
At the order of the Mayor the aaplication was taken under advisement
for later- action.
The Clerk read a letter from Mrs. Maude Harbin, 25 North
School Street advocating the passage of en Ordinance prohibiting the
erection of sierho?rds on vacant lots In the City. The communication
wes ordered filed.

the wail and caslne would cost about :32,000.00 and that an old pump on
hand wo,ild be suf£iniant for this location. On motion :)f Councilman
Spooner, se_corded by Co,incllman Clerk, Nr. Henning was authorized to
ao ahead in accordance with his recowendations.
Mr. Stuart Smith of Associated Enulpment Comoanv oresented ar
offer for the exc'nanze of the Cityts Elgin Sweeper for a used tractor,
scraper, cr, der, air compressor unit, and h17h-pressure pumn unit. This
exchange was en -)roved by the Actlax City Englneer and on motion of
Councilman 7feihe, seconded by Councilman Graffigna, this_ exchange of
ecuioment was authorized nrovldirg that the materials received were
satisfactory to the City Enczineerts office.
The Citv Clerk presented the following Resolution and on motion
of Councilman 71eiha, seconded by Councilman Clark, the same was reed
and cons h erect by the Council.

named and designated by this City Council as streets of major importance,
as contemplated by said section of said code.

Grafflona, the Sunerintendent of Public Utilities and the Actin? Citv
Engineer were authorized to make a an pnnllcation to the 77. P. a_ for

On motion of Councilman Welhe and seconded by Councilman Clark,
