CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION
AGENDA TITLE: Presentation by the Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission
regarding Honoring Teens program.
MEETING DATE: December 17,1997

RECOMMENDED ACTION: Presentation.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Greater Lodi Area Youth Commission, in
conjunction with the Lodi Sunrise Rotary Club and Christopher J. Olsen, American
Express Financial Advisors, is sponsoring a program entitled Honoring Teens. The Lodi
Youth Commission Leadership Committee selects one teen to be awarded Teen of the
Month from the applications submitted to the commission from the general public,
various schools, and church groups. This months Teen of the Month is Thu Tran from
Tokay High School.
In addition, this month we will reward an honorary mention Teen of the Month to Wendy
Maxwell.

December Teen of the Month
Thu Tran is 17 years of age and attends Tokay High School. Thu has participated in and
received ribbons in Science Olympiad contests, and has scored High Honors on the
Biology Golden State Exam. Thu is a noteworthy author, winning several awards. She
has won the most awards from the PTSA Reflections Literature contest than any other
student on the Tokay High School campus. She is a member of the Academic Decathalon
team, Spanish Club, president of the California Scholarship Federation, Key Club officer
and is on the badminton team. Thu serves as a volunteer at Valley Gardens Convalescent
Home, Children's Museum of Stockton, Sugar and Spice Festival, Mary Graham Hall and
the October Fest. She has continuously been on the 4.0 Honor Roll and is ranked #1 in
her class. She was also selected for Tokay High School's Girl's State Delegate.
December Honorary Teen on the Month
Wendy is 15 years of age and attends Lodi High School. Wendy is junior past worthy
advisor for Rainbow Girls. She has been volunteering her time at Lodi Adopt -A -Child
for four years. She constantly brings other teens to help, including DeMolay and
Rainbow Girls. Wendy is eager to do the task
