HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - July 22, 1935COUNCIL CHAMBERS --CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL-- CITY OF LODI Monday, July 22, 1935 The City Council of the C_ty of Lodi, California met in adjourned regular session in the Council Chambers at the City Hall, on Monday, July 22, 1935, at the hour of 8:00 o'clock P.M. The meeting was called to order by Idayor Steele. The Clerk called the roll. Those present and those absent were as follows: - Present: Councilmen, Clark, Spooner, Weihe and Steele. Absent: Councilman, Meagle. Mr. E. M. Kennison reported orally on the success of the soft ball gemes at the nigh School grounds under lighting equipment furnished by the City and asked the Council to consider moving the base ball diamond and lighting to lots in the nieghborhood of the new Armory building when compiling the next annual budget. Bids for the millwork on the Armory as received by the City Engineer were presented as follows: - Enterprise Mill. $1872.54 Valley Lumber Co. 1957.00 (chipped glass used) do 1905.50 (moss glass used) Lodi lumber Co. $1.776.23 Extras 75.00 1851.23 On motion of Councilman Spooner, Weihe second, the City Engineer was authorized to make the purchases from Lodi Lumber Company as needed. . Mr. Carter H. Sawyer, Project Engineer of S.E.R.A. addressed the Council, stating that all S.E.R.A. projects were being transferred to the Works Progress'Administration, and that the local armory project would have to be re -submitted as a Y.P.A. project. He then presented the estimates and agreement under the new method of proceedure. On motion of Councilman Spooner, 'brei.*.e second, the construct- ion of the armory building as a W.P.A. project was authcrized and the Mayor signed the applications in accordance with the intent of the motion as carried. It was mored by Councilman Weihe and seconded by Councilman Clark that Ordinance No. 212 be passed and adopted. Carried by the following vote: - AYES: Councilmen, Weihe, Clark, Spooner and Steele. NO S: Councilmen, BONE BOT VOTING: (ABSENT) Councilman, Keagle Ordinance No. 212 was then approved and signed by the Mayor. On motion of Councilman Clark, Spooner second, Resolution — No. 790 authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement for the continuation of S.E.R.A. assistance Jr the City Clerk's office was introduced and on call of the roll, the same was adopted by the followin a vote:- AYE'S: Councilmen, Clark, Spooner, veihe and Steele. NOME NOT VOTII7G- (A3SENT) Councilman, Keagle The Mayor then signed the project application. 230 COUNCIL CHAMBERS -- CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI The Clerk was directed to obtain informal proposals for public lisoility and property damage insurance on the City's automotive equirment and on its contina;ent liability on vehicles for which the City allowed the ownersthereof compensation; he was also instructed to submit a new schedule of valuations of City owned buildings to the 3oard of Fire Underwriters of the Pacific upon whicb'th a next blanket rate -for fire insurance would be predicated. A letter was read from John Krause Lumber Company protest- ing against grading out of certain beams surplied by them for the armory -job, stating that exposure was the cause of most of the trouble. After considerable discussion, the matter was referred to the City Attorney and the City Engineer. Mayor Steele stated that he had succeeded in obtaining a firm offer of $4,500.00 for lands acquired from the estate of G.L. Lawrence lying east of Cherokee Lane and on motion of Councilman Vieihe, Spooner second, Resolution No. 789 was introduced and read by the Clerk. RESOLUTION NO. 789 A RESOLUTIO_; AUTHORIZING THE SALE 0: REAL PROPERTY IN LOT 46 OE L A'NR ENCS' S HOMELS'i'EAD ADDITION IsHREAS, the City of Lodi is the owner in fee simple absolute 6f certain lands situated in Lot 46 of Lawrence Homestead Addition. and, WHEREAS, said lands are separated from other properties _ of this City and are not required for the use of said City or are they essential in the performance of any public service, and, 'NHERa1S, a firm offer has been made for the purchase of said portions of said Lot 46 at a price satisfactory to this City Council; BE IT RESOLVED. that G. Mr. STESZ2 as Mayor of this City, and J. E. BLS LY, as City Clerk of said City be and they are hereby authorized, empowered, and directed to execute, seal, and deliver to J. 3. GUN-MIRT a bargain and sale deed for the consideration of 44,500.00 to them in hand paid upon the delivery of said deed, said monies when received to be:deposited in the Treasury of the laity of Lodi to the credit of the General Bund thereof, The lands herein authorized to be so conveyed are particularly described as follows: All that portion of Lot 46 of "yiap of Lawrence Homestead Addition," filed April 5, 1920 in 3ook of Maps, Vol. 10, page 5, San Joaquin County Records, lying west of the property of Loewen, as described in deed from Pierce to Loewen recorded in Book A of Deeds, Vol. 244, page 392, San Joaquin County Records, and containing exclusive of State Hie.way iinown as Cherokee Lane and exclusive of the Lockeford Road, 2.628 acres, more or less. All that portion of Lot 46 of "Map of Lawrence Homestead Addition." filed April 5, 1920, in zsook of Maps, Vol. 10', page 5, San Joaquin County Records, lying East of the property @f Loewen, es described in deed from pierce to Loewen, recorded-in'3ook A of Deeds, Vol. 244, page 392 San Joaquin County Records, and containing exclusive of area in Lockeford Road, 4.199 acres, more or less." 231 COUNCIL CHAMBERS -- CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL --CITY OF LODI After the readine of the above resolution as aforesaid, the Mayor rut the question on the adoption of the setaeand the Clerk called the roll with the followinrr result:- , AYES: Councilmen, irveihe, Spooner. Clark and Steele NOES: Councilmen, NONE ABSE'N'T: Councilman Eeaele. Coancilmau Weisestated that the local Y�om�rs Relief Corps had presented a flscr to the Cit;.* for display at Lawrence Park. The Clerk was directed to forward the thanks of the Council to this body.
