HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 5, 1935212 COUNCIL CHAMBERS --CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI Wednesday, June 5, 1935 The City Co-;neil of the City of Lodi pursuant to the adjourn- ment taken from its regular meeting of June 3, 1935 met at 8:00 o'clock P.M. on the date first above written. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor and on call of the roll, Councilmen Clark, Spooner, .eihe, and Steele were present. Councilman Zeagle Absent. The Clark read a letter from the San Diego County 3ranch League of the League of California launieipalities. calling attention to a special day set aside at the San Diego yxpositibn as Municipality Day. This day would be celebrated on the fifteenth (15th) of June. Councilman 1eihe stated that he would attend this meeting if he were present in San Diego on that date. The Clark stated that he had been informed that the S.3.R.A. proposed to discontinue its mosquito control project on Thursday June o. Or motion of Councilman Spooner, Weihe second, the emergency administration was asked to continue this project for as long a period as possible. The Superintendent of Public Utilities. J.A. Henning, stated that the sanitary sewer line North of Harold Street and running through from Cherokee Lane to Stockton Street could be connected with the large &ewer in Maple Street and thereby benefit service on this line. He asked that the City appropiate the sum of about '�IJO.00 and apply to the S.E.R.A. for the labor necessary to lay the approximate 400 feet of concrete pipe required. In accordance with Mr. Henning's recommendation Resolution No. 780 was introduced by Councilman Spooner, Clark second, and passed by unaminous rote of the members present. WHEREA3, this City Council of the City of Lodi, County of San Joaquin, State of California deems it to be for the best interests of said City that application be made to the State Emergency Relief administration to do certain work; to -wit: "The extension of the present sanitary sewer running along the North line of Lots 56 and 57 of the Lodi Barnhart Tract across Stockton Street and thence South along Stockton Street to the Maple Street outfall sewer, including the construction of two man -holes." and it is now desired to make application for said project; NOW TH✓_Z,F0RE. 37, IT R :SO_Y;P,D, that application for said project be so made tbthe State urgency Relief administration for California, and that the Mayor be, and he is hereby authorized to sign said application for and on behalf of said City; 3E IT ALSO RESOLVED, that J.A. Henning, Superintendent of .Public Utilities be and he is hereby designated as the person who will supervise said project in the event of its appro-:al by the Enereency Relief dmina-_ation. Mr. Henning also asked that a S.E.-R.A. project be applied for the extension of the 4 inch water line from Stockton Street to the Foster and 'Wood Cannery. On motion of Councilman Spooner. Weihe second, and passed by unaminous rote of all members present, Resolution. WHEREAS, this City Council of the City of Lodi, Uounty of San Joaquin, State of California deems it to be for the best interests of said City that application be made to the State Emerzency Relief Administration to do certain work; to -wit: "The construction of a four -inch cast iron water main from Stockton Street to the roster and Wood Cannery." and it is now desired to make application for said project; NOW T=RZY03E, 33 I1 375OLVED, that application for said project be so made to the State Emergency Relief Administration for California. and that the Mayor be, and he is hereby authorized to sign said application for and on behalf of said City: 93 IT ALSO =SOLVED. that J.A. :ening. Superintendent of Public Utilities be and he is hereby designated as the person who will supervise said project in the event of its approval by the Emergency Relief Administration. Mr. Joseph Losekann, the architect on the proposed Armory Building. and —r. C.O. Henning, Acting City Engineer being now present, the Council proceeded to hear their recommendations as to the acceptance of the sealed proposals opened June 3. On motion of °...eyor Steele, Spooner second. Resolution 778 was passed by unaminous -ote of all members present. RESOLUL1021 NO. 778 A R'R271_S, t1ris City Council deems it to be for the best interests of the City of Lodi that all bids or proposals for furnishing Portland cement for the proposed Lodi Armory received June 3, 1935 be rejected; 3E IT RESOL'VE'D, that all of said bids for such materials and each of them be and the same are hereby declared rejected; this Council finding that it is to the best interests of the City of Lodi that said materials be purchased in the open market. It appearing that the tabulations of the bids received on June 3 denoted that award of contract for supplying of materials could now os made. The following Resolution No. 779 was adopted. RESOZ.UP1ION NO. 779 ' 23OLU'TION 03 AW -01) WH32REAS, advertisement has been made asdirected by this City Council as is evidenced by copy of notice hereto annexed and by affidavit of publication of the principal Clerk of the "LODI i; "'fS the newspaper in which said notice was printed and published, for the per of sealed proposals for furnishing materials as in said notice set forth: APTD WHREAS, sealed proposals in accordance with said notice were receired, opened. and declared on June 3, 1935, and award thereon deferred to this .eating; 21 COUNCIL CHAMBERS -- CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI 3E IT 2ZSOL'JED, therefore, that all of said proposals excepting_ that of the next named persons or firms be and the same are hereby rejected, and award of the c)ntract for doing the :Lora contemplated and furnished the materials specified be made to: - Elliott Lumber Company Krause Lumber Company Lodi Lumber Company at the prices or price named in their proposals and in accordance with the notice aforesaid and with the specifications ther.-:fore hitherto adopted. This City Council herein declaring that the proposal of the persons or firms named are the lowest and .)est proposals received; ALSO, 3E IT RTSOy'+yD. that the City Clerk be herein instructed to return the biddine deposits of all unsuccessful bidders within three days of the date hereof, retaining the deposit of the successful bidders until they shall have executed proper contracts and furnished bonds acceptable to this Co inc it . The foregoing Resolution No. 779 was then adopted by the following vote: .,YES: Councilmen. Spooner, Clark, Weihe, and Steele V033: Councilmen., None ABSENT: Councilman, Zeagle Mr. W. G. Hurrle appeared and asked that he be allowed to run the playgrounds for the same period of time and Ut the same expense as last year. His application was approved. At the order of the Mayor, the Council adjourned to the day and hour of its next regalar meeting.
