HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 3, 1935210 COUNCIL CHAMBERS - - CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL -- CITY OF LODI LIonday June 3, 1935 The City Council of the City of Lodi met at 8 o'clock P.M. at the date first above written. ?resent Councilmen Clark, yieihe, and Steele. The minutes of May 20, 1935 were read and approved without correction. Councilman Spooner appeared at 8:15 o'cl.)ck P.M. and took his seat in the Council. Mr. E. W. Cummings, Director of the San Joaquin County S.Z.B.A. addressed the Council in a few words in regard to the Armory Project. The Mayor opened the meeting by directing that all bids received for materials for the Armory be now opened and declared. Bids were received from the following persons and firms: Cowell Cement Company, bidding on cement. W. C. Hauck, bidding on steel Palm Iron and fridge storks bidding on steel Soule Steel Company, bidding on Steel J. E. Higgins,Lnmber.;Company, bidding on maple flooring only. The John Zrause Lumber Company, bidding on a complete lint of lumber items. The Elliot Lumber Company, bidding by item onall materials called for in the notice to bidders. The Lodi Lumber Company, bidding on all items called for in the notice to bidders. Ed Spiekerman, Bidding on cement. sand, and rock. The proposal of the Valley Lumber Company was not considered be- cause no certified check as a bidding deposit was enclosed. The proposal of t. S. Wetenall on steel was received too late to be considered, being presented by messenger at 8:50 O'clock P.M. After opening and consideration of the foregoing proposals, the Mayor ordered them referred to the City Engineer and Architect for tabinlation and report to the Council at an adjourned meeting to be held the following Wednesday evening. Mr. E. J. Cain representing the American Legion Baseball team addressed the Council in regard to the use of Lawrence Park for baseball practice. The report of the Chief.of Police for the month of May and that of the City Poundmaster for the same period were received and ordered filed. The clerk stated that he was in receipt of a project application made out by the District Engineers of the State Highway Commission wherein it was proposed to spend 42,000.00 of the City's portion of the Gasoline Tax Monies on Highway 53 between the end of the 'present pavement on Lockeford Street and Cherokee Lane. It appear- ine that this expenditure could not be avoided, he was instructed to approve the project application and forward it to the District Engineer. On account of conaestidn of traffic at the corner of &Iain and Lockeford Streets, the clerk was directed to get in touch with the California Automobile Association and secure their recommend- ations as to the proper signs to be erected warning traffic of the dangerous c:)ndition. Edward Hutchins filed a petition asking that the City annex portions of Blocks 1 and 2 of the Hutchins Homestead Addition of Lodi to the City. The petition was ordered received and referred to the City Attorney. COUNCIL CHAMBERS -- CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL -- CITY OF LODI On motion of Councilman Spooner, Clark second, Ordinance No. 209 entitled "An Ordinance emending Ordinance No. 137 of the City of Lodi Entitled "An Ordinance Regulating Traffic and Parking of Automobiles upon the Streets in the City of Lodi, Providing a Penalty for the Violation Thereof, and Repealing all Ordinances in Conflict Therewith." Relative to Parsing of Vehicles upon Public Streets of the Cit, of Lodi, was introduced and ordered laid over for the statutory period of not less than five (5) days. On motion of Councilman Spgoner, ;ieihe second, Ordinance 1.0. 210 entitled "Al. Six building permits for structures to cost ,513,475.00 were allowed and ordered zranted. Bills in the amount of ;14,188.00 as approved by the Finance Committee, were allowed and orde_ed paid on,motion of Councilman Spooner. Weihe second. On motion of Mayor Steele, Spooner second. the Chief of Police was directed to strictly enforce the present Garbage Ordinance, particularly that part having to do with the storage of garbage in tightly sealed redeptikbles. At the order of the °ayor the City Oouncil adjourned to and until 8:00 o'clock P.M. of Wednesday, June 5, 1935. Attest: 2.
