COUNCIL CHAMBERS -- CITY COUNCIL
CITY HALL - - CITY Of LODI
October 15, 1934.
This regular meeting of the City of Lodi was called to
order by the Clerk at 8:00 o'clock P.:u. on the date first
above written, Councilmen Clark, Zeagle, Spooner and Weihe
present, Mayor Steele absent on account of illness.
On motion of Councilman Weihe, Clark second, Councilman
Spooner was elected Mayor pro -tem and opened the meeting.
The minutes of the regular meeting of October 1st and
the meeting adjourned therefrom held October 5th.,1934
were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the L:ayor.
Lr Ch.ristian Rageth,addressed the Council in regard to
planting lawn grasses.under the trees in the walnut grove
at Lake Park, recommending seeding with blue grass and
clover and that the seed be purchased at once on account
of the rising market. LL- Rageth filed price list and
seed samples with the clerk and the Kayor referred the
matter to the Committee on Parke.
An application for extension of the sanitary sewer
lines to the residence of William Voth on 921 S.Garfield
Street was received and referred to the Committee on
Public Utilities.
The quarterly Reports of the City Clerk and of the
City Treasurer for the period ended September 30,1934
were received, read and ordered filed.

BY ORDINANCE NO. 115 " was introduced on motion.of Council -
Pan ieagle, Clark second and by the same motion, ordered
laid over for the statutory period of not less that five
days by the following vote. -
AYES: Councilmen, Leagle, Clark, Weihe and Spooner.
NOBS: Councilmen, None. ABSQyT: Councilman Steele.
The Clerk then read the resignation of F. Christesen
as Chief of Police and on motion of Councilman 'T.eihe, Clark
second, the same was accepted, Councilman Zeagle voting "NO"
Fourteen building permits for structures and alterat-
ions to cost $ 11,285.00 were ordered granted.
Under new baeiness, Councilman Clark moved, Weihe
second, that Police Officer C. S. Jackson be appointed Chief
of Police, effective November let.,1934. Motion carried
unanimously.
The officers and members of Lodi Volunteer Fire Depart-
ment invited the City Council to be present at the next
regular meeting of the Department to be held November 5, 1934
The Council voted unanAmously to accept the invitation, and,
as this date could fall upon a regular meeting date of the
City Council, the Clerk was directed to appear at the
Council Chambers on the evening of November 5th at 8:00 P.M.
and adjourn the meeting to Wednesday, November 7th at the
hour of B:00 o'clock P.M. of that day.
Claims to the amount of $10,810.00 having been approved
by the Finance Committee, the same were ordered paid on
motion of Councilman Clark, Weihe second and the Acting Mayor
signed warrants in payment thereof.

City Attorney Glenn West then addressed the Council
in regard to the status of the suit filed against the CiJ7
by the assignees of the patentees of the activated sludge
process of sewage disposal. IL- Brest stated that the
Sspreme.Court of the United -States had refused to grant
a re -hearing of a similar case against the City of lZilwaukee
Yiseonsin and that several Southern, California cities who
were defendants in similar snits to that filed against this
City had united in retaining Lyon & Lyon as attorneys in
defending these suits. He stated that he had written to
one of the City Attorneys asking for a copy of the contract
for legal.services under which these attorneys had been
employed but that he had not as yet received it. .
On motion of Councilman Weihe, Z:eagle second, the
Council adjourned at 9:00 o'clock P.M. to meet as previous -
agreed on Wednesday, November 7th,1934 at 5:00 o'clock P.1.:.
