HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - September 4, 1934143 COUNCIL CHAMBERS - - CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL-- CITY OF LODI September 4, 1934 This regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi was called to order by the Mayor at 8:10 o'clock P.M. on the date first above written, Councilmen Clark, Keagle, Spooner, Weihe and Steele (Mayor) present, none absent. The minutes of the regular meeting of August 20th.,1934 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor. No persons desiring to address the Council at'this time, the order of Public Hearings was passed and the Council proceed- ed to hear Communications and Reports : The Report of the Chief of Police for the month of August was received, read and ordered filed, likewise the report of the City Poundmaster for the saw period. A communication'from the "1915 Bond Act Committee" of the League of California Municipalities was received and filed with- out comment. On motion of Councilman Clark, Spooner second; the Mayor and the City Clerk were named delegates to the annual convention of the League of California Municipalities to be held at Pasadena September 24 - 27. On motion of Councilman Spooner, Keagle second, the Volun- teer Fire Department were allowed lights for a first-aid station to be maintained at 3 West Pine Street during the Grape Festival. Councilman Weihe asked for special police at hake Park on Sunday, September 9th. On motion of Councilman Spooner, Keagle second, the Chief of Police was empowered to employ such extra police officers as he might deem necessary for the period of the Tokay Festival, such men to be paid at the rate of 50¢ per hour. Also, the City Clerk was directed to communicate with Harvey 2. Odell, Sheriff of San Joaquin County and with E.Raymond Cato of the State Highway Patrol abd request that they detail officers to handle the expected crowds. ORDINANCE NO. 206, "AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES FOR THE FISCAL 7-24H BEGINNING JULY 1, 1935" was introduced on motion of Councilman Keagle, Weihe second, and by the same motion, laid over for the statutory period of not less than five days. Five building permits Nos. 1153 to 1156 inclusive, for structures to cost $2,875.00 were ordered granted. A rate of $1.50 for water at SE corner Elm & School Streets was confirmed as a proper charge, tenant to install meter at his own expense if dissatisfied. Mr Steele said that he desired that the cleaning up of vacant lots and alleys continue and on motion of Councilman Spooner, Weihe second, the Superintendent of Streets was directed to furnish the City Attorney with a list of delinquent lot owners so that immediate legal steps might be taken to have them olesaed up at the owners expense. Carried unanimously. Bills in the amount of $12,141.21 as approved by the Finance Committee were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Clark, Spooner second.
