HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - July 16, 19341.27 COUNCIL CHAMBERS --CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI Konday, July 16, 1934 The City Council of the City of Lodi met in regular session at 8:10 o'clock of the date first above written, Councilmen Clark, Keagle, Weihe and Steele present at roll - call, Councilman Spooner appeared at 6:20 o'clock P.Y. and took his seat. The minutes of the last meeting held July 2nd,1934 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Iiayor. The order of Public Hearings was passed for the moment and the Council proceeded to hear communications and reports. The Clerk reported that oral complaint had been made by residents from the vicinity of the premises at No. 719 South Garfield Street conducted as a "beer parlor" by H. B. Otto, he was directed to have the Chief of Police investigate and see if some arrangement could be made particularly as to closing time. Lodi Autorex, C. W. Knapp Proprietor, applied for per- mission to install two underground gasoline tanks and pumps at 115 East Oak Street, all inside the property lines. On motion of Councilman Clark, Weihe second, the application was ordered approved. The application of Ifs Ethel S. Stephens for license to conduct card and dice games at No. 27 N. Sacramento Street was read and ordered referred to the Chief of Police with power to issue same if applicant was found to be a suitable person. The reports of the City Treasurer and the City Clerk for the quarter ended June 30, 1934 were received and ordered filed and a copy of the Clerk's report reconciled with that of the Treasurer was furnished each Councilman. OiDINAiiCE NO. 203 " ALT ORDINANCE REPEALING ORDINANCE. NO. 190 AND A11ENDING ORDINANCE NO. 161 RELATING TO THE AMOUNT Or THE CITY TREASURER'S BOND " was introduced on motion of Councilman Spooner, Keagle second, and by the same motion laid over for the statutory period of not less than five days. Building permit applidations Nos 1140-41-42 in estimated cost of $10,000 were ordered granted as within existing ord- inances; application No. 1143 was held up for discussion as a petition was presented by A.R.Kolb protesting against the granting of the same but was finally allowed, Councilman Weihe voting "No". At the suggestion of Chairman 16eihe of the Committee on Streets and Parks, the Layor then called the Council into executive session. On return to open meeting, the Council having been informed that lir J.W.Sollars, Resident Custodian at Lake Park, would not be able to continue in that position on account of serious illness, Yx Spooner moved, Weihe second, that Mr J. W. Shattuck be appointed to the place at the same salary and under the same conditions as those under which Mr Sollars had been employed. Motion carried unanimously. The management of the Lake Park property was left in the hands of Mr W. G. Hurrle. Bills in the amount of $3,843.61 as approved by the Finance Committee were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Spooner, Clark second.
