the American Red Cross appeared before the Council at this time.
Mr Newfield stated that they were present in behalf of the
Preparedness and Relief Organization Department of the Red Cross.
He stated the objects of this department and that they were the
only organization using state and federal funds in time of
disaster. They asked that the City Council officially approve
this organization as the authorized body to carry out disaster
relief.
On motion of Councilman Spooner, Keagle second, the City
Clerk was directed to co-operate with the Red Cross represent-
atives in framing a suitable resolution approving and endorsing
this department as the official body to act in times of great
distress or calamity.
Lor C. R. Van Buskirk, representing petitioners from
several church congregations, presented a petition asking that
the City Council forbid the sale of intoxicating liquors at
Lake Park. Mayor Steele assured. Mr Van, Buskirk that the City
Council had determined that no sales of liquor would be permitted
at the Park. The presented petition was then ordered filed.
Mr Moran representing B.A.Reynolds asked if a permit
would be granted for a sheet iron structure to house a repair
shop and living rooms to be built on the SE corner of Church
and Lockeford Streets. After some discussion, he was directed
to file an application for a building permit in the usual
manner.
The report of the Chief of Police for the month of June
and the report of the City Poundmaster for the same period were
received, read and ordered filed.
The Secretary of Lodi Volunteer Fire Department filed
reports covering the quarter ended June 30th and for the fiscal
year just ended. Both reports were read at length and the Clerk
directed to rile the same.
Pioneer Fuel & Feed Company applied by letter for per-
mission to enlarge its public scales on the sidewalk space of
South Main Street. Permission ordered granted.
Superintendent of Public Utilities J.A.Henning informed
the Council that, owing to the small purchases of incandescent
electric light globes made in the past year, the City would not
be entitled to the discounts provided in the agreement with
Emery & Brown Electric Service authorized June 4,1934 (Page 122
Vol 5 of these minutes), but would have to contract at a lesser
contract rate. Accordingly, on motion of Councilman Spooner,
Clark second, the Mayor was authorized to enter into a new
agreement with the same agents at the proper discount rate.
Motion carried unanimously and the Mayor then executed the new
_ purchase agreement. By an amendment to Mr Spooner's motion,
the former contract cited above was ordered cancelled.
The Northern California Conferance of Seventh Day Advent-
ists tentatively applied for permission to connect with this
City's sanitary sewer system for a building to be erected on the
Southeast corner of Poplar Street and Central Avenue, asking
if such permission would be granted and what charge would be
made for the service. It was ordered that permit be granted,
if and when applied for and that the rate be established in the
same manner as that charged Lossing & Franklin on Quinby Ave.
