December 18, 1933 This regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi was called to order by the *Mayor at 8:00 o'clock P.M.on the date first above written, Councilmen Clark, aeagle,, Spooner, Weihe and Steele(Mayor) present, none absent. No persons being in attendance, the order of Public Hear- ings was passed and the Council proceeded to hear communicat- ions and reports : (1) A letter from Lodi Post Veterans of Foreign 'liars thank- ing the City Council for its contribution to the celebration of -December 2nd.,; (2) A letter from the Division of Highways in regard to projects for the exnanditure of the City's allotment of gasoline taxes; (3) A communication from the publisher of The Lodi News asking the opportunity of submitting a proposal on the City's o'ficial printing for the year 1934; The Council then took up the matter of :he publication of the official notices etc. for the next year. The Clerk submitted specifications and the s=e were read at length and approved and adopted by the passage of the fol- lowing resolution :- 3y3'JLliT10N No. 698 Resolved by the City Council of the City of Lodi (1) That the annexed "Specifications for the Publication of of Legal Notices in Conformance with Section No. 874 of the Municipal Corporation Act as Amended by the Statutes of 1933" be, and the same are hereby approved and adopted as the official specifications under which the annual contract for the publication of said notices shall be let for the calendar year ending on December 31, 1934 ; (2) That the City Clerk publish a notice inviting sealed proposals for the publications of the matter described in the said specifications, such proposals to be received and opened in this City Council on Tuesday, the second day of January, 1934 at a regular meeting of this Council. The foregoing Resolution No. 698 was thereupon passed ad adopted by the following vote: - AYES: Councilmen, Clark, Keagle, Spooner, Wieihe and Steele Wayor), NO3S: Councilmen, hone. ABSENT: Councilmen, None. The Mayor stated that he had been approached by Lodi Business den's Association relative to the placing of four Christmas trees at the corners of the intersection of School and Pine Streets; the association_ requesting that the City provide suitable receptacles for their install- ation. after some debate as to the possible interference with traffic, no action was taken. Superintendent John a. E e_. ing stated that the outfall storm drain on :tort- Sacramento Street aas not functioning properly owing to the collapse of metal piping on the river end, he was authorized to purchase concrete pipe to the amount of 1_;4160.00 and proceed with replacement. Kr Eenning also proposed that the City purchase 400 feet of cast-iron pipe available at 37w a foot for future instal- lation in improving fire mains to South School Street. Searls had requested that the Cit, file a brief as amici curiae in the case of East Bay runicipal Utility District vs Earl Lee Kelley as Dirgctor of Public '!corks now pending in the state courts, in which case the plaintiff seeks to have certain restrictions set forth in its water permits deleted as they appertain to the rizhts of lower or down. -stream :.:.ter users. On motion of Coungilman Spooner, rveihe second, City __torney West was directed to file such a brief in opposition to the petition if and when he was advised that this proceedure was necessary. On motion of Councilman i:eegle, 6eihe second, .the City Clerk was authorized to accept the ssm of X8.50 in compromise of the water bill of ILrs Helen l.:atthews on S. School St. The. annual purchase agreement for the supply of liquid chlorine used at the sewage disposal plant was renewed with Great Western Electro Chemical Company at the price of 4 per pound F.O.B.Pittsburg, Calif. and the Mayor executed the agreement. Bills in the amount of $3,583.13 as a.proveA by the Finance Committee were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Clark, Weihe second. On motion of Councilman leihe, and passed unanimously, the City Council then adjourned in respect to the memory of ILr George L. Lawrence, Lodi's first Mayor who died December 14th, 1933,and it -.as so ordered.
