HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - October 16, 1933COUNCIL CHAMBERS -• CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI Monday, October 16, 1933 The City Council of the City of Lodi met at 8 o'clock °.'. on the date first above written, Councilmen Clark, Keagle, Weihe - and Steele (Mayor) present, Councilman Sgooner absent. The minutes of the last meeting held October 2, 1933 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor. No persons appearing at this time, the order of Public Hear- ings was passed and the Council proceeded to the hearing of communications and reports. A letter from Charles M. Jones, Postmaster was read asking that all tax liens against the site of the new postoffice be can- celled. The following resolution was then adopted : RESOLUTION No. 691 1:T 'HE MITTtTR OT T= C:1 ri E1.L TION 0? WHEIREAS, in accordance with law and ordinance, the City Assessor of. this City did assess the properties hereinafter described to the owners of record on the first Monday of March, 1933, and, ViFEREAS, this City Council did thereafter levy taxes in accordance with ordinance, at the time and in the manner provided therein, for municipal purposes of said City, and, 166 EREAS, the City Clerk as Auditor of the City of Lodi did thereafter set the amounts of said taxes in accordance with the assessed values so placed and at the.rate so established, and, W H3Ra'AS, subsequent to said assessment and tax levy, the said properties became the property of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA by purchase as is more particularly set forth in certain deeds from Wilson H. Thompson and Myrtle A. Green, now of record in the office of the County Recorder of San Joaquin County, State of California, which deeds were duly recorded on the 22nd day of August, 1933; NOW, TH-K-2y♦'ORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by this. City Council of the City of Lodi, County of San Joaquin, State of California in regular meeting this 16th day of October, 1933, that all City assessments for taxes now a lien on the properties next herein described, be, and the same are hereby ordered cancelled. The properties herein mentioned, the assessment numbers on the 1933-34 assessment roll and the amounts of tax levied are as follows :- Assessment No. 1088 in the name of Wilson H. Thompson against Lots 13 and 14 in 3lock 17 as said lots and block are delineated and so designated on that certain map entitled "Mokel- umne" on file in the office of the County Reeorder of San Joaquin County in the amount of TEIRTY SIS D0LLARS (436.00), Assessment No. 1089 in the name of Myrtle Green agai4st Lot 15 in Block 17 of said map of "Mokelumne" in the amount of TWENTY DOLLARS ($20.00), T:^e Auditor of this City will deduct the amount of said taxes from the current roll, and if said taxes have been charged to the Tax Collector, he will credit him with the amount thereof. The Assessor will hereafter omit said lots from the City Assess- ment 3olls. The foregoing Resolution No. 691 was adopted by the following vote AYES, Councilmen, Clark,W-3ihe,Keagle and Steele. A38 -,21T, Councilmen, Spooner. 6j (minutes of Jctober 10.1933 -continued-) COUNCIL CHAMBERS - - CITY COUNCIL CITY HnLL -- CIN Of LODI Several citizens azpearing at this time and desiring to be heard, ther.:ayor ordered return to the Order of Public Hearings and P.'.r 3,,1y ?arsons of 704 N. C%:urch Street addressed the Council in regard to a dilapidated dwelling house on Lot 4, Block 1 of the Moran -?andel Tract, being the premises numbered 630 North Church Street. 1r ?arsons stated that the building was occupied at times by transients and had been so damaged by the removal of doors, windows and fixtures that this class found little diffic- ulty in obtaining entrance and thereby made it liable to destruct- ion by fire and a menace to near -by buildings. The I,'ayor ordered that the City's power to abate such a nuisance be ascertained and if existing ordinances were fount to be insufficient, that an ordinance covering such cases be drawn for submission at the next council meeting. Clark, Zeegle, 'iieihe and Steele NOES: Councilmen, None. 03311T: Councilman, Spooner. The Mayor then approved and signed the ordinance. l -',e City Treasurer and the City Clerk then presented their reports of financial transactions of the City for the quarter ended September 30th, 1933 and the same were read and ordered filed. ?our building permits for structures to cost 4890.00 were allowed and ordered granted. Bills in the amount of 43,698.13 as approved by the Finance Committee were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Councilman Clark, eihe second. No further business appearing, the City Council adjourned to and until 8 o'clock P.I. of Monday, October 30, 1933 on motion of Councilman Weihe.
