COUNCIL CHAMBERS --CITY COUNCIL
CITY HALL -- CITY OF LODI
Monday, August 7 - 1933
This regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi
was called to order by the Mayor -at 8 o'clock P.M. -on the date
above written, Councilmen Clark, Keagle, Spooner, Weihe and Steele
present, none absent.
I_ The minutes of the meeting held July 17th,1933 were read,
approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor.
Mr Fred R. Polenske representing Lodi Business Men's Assoc-
iation -addressed the Council, stating that it had been reported
that the new Federal building would face Walnut Street. The
Clerk then read a letter from the local Chamber of Commerce
making the same statement. Postmaster C.M.Jones stated that if
the plans called for fronting on Walnut Street instead of School
Street, a petition should be prepared embodying the proposed
change and stating reasons therefore and forwarded to the Post -
office Department. The following resolution was then adopted:
RESOLUTION
Whereas, it is rumored that the new Federal Building plans
call for this building to face Walnut Street;
And, Whereas, if this be a fact, this City Council believes
that the more important street is School Street and that the
building should so face;
Be It Resolved, that the postal authorities be petitioned
to have the necessary changes be made in the plans so that the
contemplated building will face westerly -on South School Street.

Postmaster C.M.Jonee offered space in the present Postoffice
building for a bulletin board for the posting of legal notices.
The E1 Rey Beverage Company, on application, was granted
a license to sell beer for re -sale.
Letters of thanks for use of parks and streets were rec-
eived from the Veterans of Foreign Wars and from the Baptist
Young Peoples Society.
Reports of the Poundmaster and of the Chief of Police for
the month of July were read and ordered filed.
The liability of the City for payment of state sales tax
on materials purchased was referred to the City Attorney for an
opinion as to the constitutionality of the state's imposing such
.a tax on municipalities.
Caminol Company Ltd. was granted a permit to construct a
service station at the corner of School and Elm Streets with
the restriction that curb opening on School Street be restricted
to the minimum.
The City Clerk filed his annual report covering the Financ-
ial Operations of the City for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30,1933
and the same was ordered printed.
Bills in the amount of $10,711.73 were allowed and ordered
Paid, motion Councilman Weihe, Clark second.
The Council tixen adjourned at the order of the Mayor.
