2^e City Council of the City of Lodi met in regular session
at 8 o'clock P.U. on the date first above written, Councilmen
Clark, .'.eagle, Spooner and Weihe present, Councilman Steele absent.
On motion of C.uncilman Spooner, iieagle second, and carried unan-
imously, Councilman Weihe :Jas elected Mayor pro tem and opened the
meeting.
The minutes of the last meeting held April 17th were read,
approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor.
Public Hearinzs:
Mr John C. Jacobson addressed the Council in recard to a
better water supply for residences on School Street, south of
Spruce Street. On motion of Councilman Spooner, Clark second
this matter was referred to the Committee on Public Utilities
to act in conjunction with Superintendent Henning in obtaining
the number to be benefitted and the cost of changes in the sys-
tem of supply. This Committee to report at the next meeting.
The report of the Chief of Police for the month of April and
the report of the City Poundmaster for the same period were both
received, read and ordered filed.
It appearing that the contract made May 21, 1928 with San-
itary City Scavenger Company for garbage collection would expire
June 30, 1933, the following resolution was introduced by Council-
man Spooner, _eagle second:-

a7"'33AS, that certain contract made and entered into by and between
this City and G. 3. Vallerga et al for collection of garbage in
this City will expire June 30, 1933;
AND, WHEREAS, this is a contract for personal service and to be
let at the discretion of this City Council;
AND, WHEREAS, the successors in inter.st to the said G.3.Vallerga
et al, have faithfully met and carried all the terms of the above
contract to the full satisfaction of this City Council and have
made payments thereunder to said City at the times and in the
amounts set forth therein;
3E IT RESOLVED, that it is to the public interest that this contract
be renewed, and that a contract be drawn by and between this City
and Columbus Vaoarrezza and Alfredo Barsotti, doing business under
the name and style of "Sanitary City Scavenger Company", who have
succeeded the said G.3.Vallerga, and that the Mayor be, and he is
herein authorized to execute said contract in the name of this
City. The term of this contract shall be for a period of five(5)
years from and after the thirtieth day of June, 1933.

Councilmen, None. ABSENT: Councilman, Steele.
In order to lessen the expense of publication of the del-
inluent tax list, the following amendment to ordinance No. 129
was introduced on motion of Councilman Clark, Keagle second and
by the sane motion, laid over for the statutory period of not
less than five days:

ordered granted.

tenitavely decided to leave the matter in the rands of t^e Clerk
and of the Tax Collector to continue as at presant.without
ehargin,g delinquent penalties until Yay 20tr.,1933.
It appeasing that much of the work on dead trees and street
cleaning could be performed by men directly employed by the City
rather than those furnished by the Community Welfare Council
at no greater expense, the Clerk was instructed to co-operate
with R. 3. -McClure in furnishing men suited to the various jobs
and who r_eeded the Pork, such labor to be paid at 25i per hour
and the men rotated in employment.
Bills in the amount of X6,367.98 as allowed by the finance
Committee were ordered paid on motion of Councilmen Spooner,
`.eagls second.
at 9.04 o'clock ?.:C. the CDuncil was resolved into Committee
of the ,chole and lir 3obert M. Searls addressed the Co'-*icil on
matters that had taken place in the Superior Court of San Joaquin
County that day.
No further business appearing, the :layor adjourned the
meeting.
