HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 20, 19332: COUNCIL CHAMBERS -- CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI Monday, March 20,1933 ?ha CitLf Council of the City of Lodi met at 8 o'clock P.11. on the date first above written, Councilmen Clark, Zeagle, Spooner ,.eine and Steele (Mayor) present, none absent. The minutes of the last meeting held March 6th.,1933 were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor. No persons desiring to address the Council at this time, the order of Public Hearings was passed and the Council proceeded to hear communications. The City Clerk reported by letter that he had received from officers and employees of the City as contributions to un- emnloyment relief, the sum of 41,175.35 and had drawn checks against this amount of 41,000.00 payable to Citizens Welfare Council with .415.00 outstanding accounts collectable for the months of January and February and that he had received advance contributions for March amounting to 423.?5. Letters advocating support of legislation in regard to sewer rentals and against certain amendments to the so-called Riley - Stewart Constitutional Amendment were read in part, also a le.ter from the Tax Committee of the City of Milwaukee advocat- ing the issuance of Federal currency based on the security of municipal bonds. Lester C. Randolph submitted a written proposal to renew the finish on both city fire trucks, offering to strip off the finish on the grey truck, paint it with Duco and stripe with gold leaf for :4175.00 or to refinish this truck in red Vitral- ite or varnish, striping with gold powder for 475.00. He offered to varnish the red truck for 465.00. On order' of the Manor, this matter was referred to the Committee on Public Health and Safety. 'he Clerk read a letter from Shell Oil Company cancelling the contract under which the City had been purchasing gas- oline and another from the same company offering an annual comtract with a 13V top price guarantee, present state tax included but exclusive of federal excise tax. Mr John A. Henning submitted a telegram from The Caminol Company, Ltd offering a contract with a 13V maximum guarantee, both Fed- eral and State Tax included. The Clerk was directed to obtain more quotations and submit them at the next meeting. Mr J. E. Eirtley, 509 East :ralnut Street, by letter, asked the Council to prevent Japanese families from moving into residential territory now exclusively occupied by white per- sons. This being beyond the powers of the Council, no action could be taken. The Committee on Finance & Revenue reported that after due consideration, it saw no reason to change its recommendation upon which award of contract for the public printing of the City had been let to the Lodi Sentinel on February 20, 1933. On motion of Councilman deihe, Eeagle second, the matter of opening the Municipal Baths was referred to the Committee on Streets and Highways with power to act on recommendation of Manager W. G.Eurrle. Bills as aproved by the Finance Committee in the amount of 42,927.66 were allowed and ordered paid. March 27th at the hour of 8 o'clock P.M. and that the City Attorney then present an ordinance amending Ordinance 118 so as to admit the use, sale or possession of liquors of an alcoholic content equal to that allowed by the Congress.or the State Legislature now in session with such regulatory provisions as might be necessary.
