HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - February 20, 19332: COUNCIL CHAMBERS - -CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - - CITY OF LODI Monday, February 20,1933 .he City Council of the City of Lodi met in regular session at B o'clock P.M. on the date first above written, Councilmen Clark, Keagle, Spooner, Teihe and Steele present, none absent. The minutes of the last meeting held February 6th were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor. No persons appearing at this time, the order of Public Hearings was passed and the Council proceeded to hear Communications and ReDorts : A letter enclosing an invitation to the Mayor and Council to attend a banquet in celebration of ground -breaking for the Golden Gate bridge was read. A letter enclosing various memoranda relative to a proposed tax on gasoline used by pleasure boats was received from the Mayor of Coronado. No action taken. A notice of the annual competitive award for sewage disposal plants was referred to Fred W. Post of the City plant, leaving, him the option of entering the plant 'should he so desire. Lir C. R. Heed of the Taxation Committee of the Federal Tax Bureau of the League of California Municipalities acknowledged by letter, the receipt of the City's contribution to the fund and stated progress made. The Clerk stated that the -Lodi Grammar Schools, through Super- intendent W. 2. Wiley had offered the City three play ground slides for installation ig the City play -pound. Fire Chief G. D. Polenske a -plied for permission to purchase six hundred feet of one and one-half inch fire hose and to have the rear tires on fire truck No. 2 replaced. Referred to Com- mittee on Public Health and Safety with power to act on the tire replacement matter and with the recommendation that the purchase of hose be -postponed to May if practicable. :red W. Post asked that the City plant walnut trees on the vacant ground South of the Sewage Disposal Plant; that the porch of the dwelling house at the plant be enclosed with screen wire and that he be allowed to purchase one hundred fifty feet of one and one-half inch galvanized pipe to replace the present three - fourth inch line running from the plant pump to his house. On motion of Councilman weihe, Clark second, the purchase of the pipe through Henderson Bros. Co. was authorized and Kr Post was directed to obtain estimates of cost on the screen porch and submit it to the Committee on Public Health and Safety. Councilman Spooner stated that he was informed that the row of eculayptus trees bordering the old septic tanks at the Sewage Disposal Plant had been killed by the frost of last December and that a man named Ritz had offered to take them out for the wood; the City Clerk stated that he had been approached by William Sch- neider also, regarding these trees but that Schneider had made only an offer to cut them off at the ground surface. On motion of Councilman +Veihe, Spooner second, Lir Ritz was allowed to take out the trees provided he removed all stumps and left the ground lever and clean. In the matter of the sale of surplus sludge accumulating at the Sewage Disposal Plant and the offer of W.E.Riggs hitherto made in writing to purchase the same: A contract for three years was submitted and on motion of Councilman Keagle, Weihe second, the same was ordered executed. The Mayor and members of the Committee on Public Health and Safety thereupon signed the contract in duplicate and the Clerk was directed to file the same. 22 ('t:inutes of 2-20-33,cont. ) COUNCIL CHAMBERS - - CITY COUNCIL CITY HALL - • CITY Of LODI na.ard of contract for the Public Printing and Publishing of the City for the year ending December 31, 1933 to "The Lodi Sentinel" ,as made by the adoption of Resolution No.,6-6f by unanimous vote. 611 The Committee on Streets and Highways reported orally against the pruning of fan -palms throughout the City at this time as the trees might have been killed by the heavy frosts. Sia building permits aggregatiog $3,440.00 were ordered granted. Mr J.H.3ornet applied for permission to remove a large elm tree in front of No. 207 Test Oak Street. Permission ordered granted. H.zeuer addressed the Council regarding stray live stock that annoyed his tenants at ,,-429 Poplar Street. The Mayor ?ave him a statement of proceedure necessary to prevent this nuisance and said that he would communicate with the owner of the animals. On motion of Councilman.,Keagle, Clark second, bills in the amourt of $4,450.32 as approved by the _inance Committee were allowed and ordered paid. On motion of Councilman iieihe, the City Council then adjourned to and until the date of its next regular meeting to be held Monday, March 6th., 1933.
