This .re3ularmeeting- of the City Council of the City o:
Lodi was called to order by the mayor at 8 o'clock P.M..on t_.ee
date first above written,Councilmen Koagle, Poach, Steele,
Jeihe and Spooner presen, none absent.
The :.:inutes of the last regular meeting held February d.,
were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the i:ayor.
Dr. J. 5. Nelson, Trustee of San Joaquin Local Health
District being present, presented and read his annual report
on the activities and accomplishments of the District. Report
ordered received and filed.
Mr George D. ?olenske, Chief of the Lodi Fire Department
addressed the City Council as to the needs of the Department
eseecially in the line of 2,1 inch hose. lir Polenste and the
City Clerk were directed to obtain samples and analyses of
hose from the principal manufacturers.
Er Polense also asked that the City Council view certain
repairs and changes that should be made at the old City Hall
Dire Station. !.c.action taken.
A le -,ter was received from the International Police Jou_aal
asking for certain photos erelininar- to an advertise solic`.-
ation campaign. Ordered filed without comment:

A letter from the Secretary Liana€er of the League of Ca._ f-
ornia `.:anicina1ities directing attention to certain pending
legislation seeking, the raising of� the tax -rate limit from $1.30
to X1.25 in sixth class cities with the instruction that he
reply to the same with the information that chile Lodi is not
interested, no objection would be made should this amendment
meet with the aeeroval of other cities.
The report of the -oundeaster for the rnonth of January
was received, read and ordered filed.
2hrough the City Clerk, Ur D. Beronio made an oral proe: eal
for a lease contract for the purchase by the City of the old
c.J.Hemphill property, Church and Locketord Streets now owned
by him.
A petition signed by I.G.Krieger and others requesting '?:at
fourteen root strips along the new stateave on Cherokee Le_.Le
be paved providing that the City coni,ributed $10,000 to the wcrk
was received and read. Petition ordered laid over for consider-
ation, the City Attorney to see Supervisor Stuckenbruck as to

the share that San Joaquin 'ounty would contribute and also to
ascertain if county road -funds were available at this time.
Cn mot on of Councilman Steele, : eihe second, the Street
Superintendent was instructed to make immediate repairs to
the gutter along Lot 4 in Block 10, of -rhe original city with
the idea that other -.-Fork on this gutter ,could he done in the
future so as to -orevent the accumulation of ,water at the alley
entrance south of this lot.
cur buildip-g permits for struct :res to cost $9,575.00
were ordered granted.
Bills in the amount of $10,399.77 as a:croved by the
Pi:.ar_ce C wittee :were ordered paid, motion Councilman .ieihe,
.Roach second.
At 10.05 P.;";. the Council was resolved into executive
session at the order of the 1.1ayor.
At 10.37 o'clock -?,M. the meeting ;las resumed and on
motion of Councilman Steele, ::eagle second, Frank Freeman ryas
chosen janitor of the City Hall at a salary of $85.00 per
month.. .
It ;was tentatively decided that J.Hurrle, manager of the
Baths shculd have charge of the City Play -grounds for the
Suzmer at such additional campensation as would be reasonable.
a;o further business a pearing, the City Council adjourned
on motion of Council-man-Teihe.
