HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - March 17, 1930384 Council Chambers -City Council City Hall -City of Lodi Lonlay, march 1'�th. ,1930 This regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi was called to order by the '.`ayor at 8.15 o'clock on the date first above written, Councilmen Hale, Roach, Shattuck, 7eihe and Spooner present, none absent. The minutes of the regular meeting held l=arch 3rd. ,1930 were read, apJroved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor. No persons appearing, the order of Public Hearings ::as passed and the Council proceeded to hear co*m_^.unications and reports as follows : A letter from the Division Superintendent of the Southern Pacific Companyrelative to the apparent misalignment of Tokay Street at the ompany's crossing was referred to the Clerk with instructions to inform the writer that this slight var- iation from the straight line of Tokay Street east of the track would present no serious obstacle to the improvement"of the crossing and ,mould present no added danger to -the same. Perrins Auto Electric £-. Service Company applied by letter for permission to install a gasoline storage tank in the alley north of ITo.113 N School Street, the discharge to be within the building. On motion of Councilman .Teihe, Shattuck second, the permissionwasgranted. The Clerk read conies of letters written by City Attorney Glenn fest to C. P. Gray re.carding the i1leggl maintenance of an auto nark on N. Church Street and to the -District Attorney of San Joaquin County in re and to the 4¢ library tax. On motion duly put and carried, Lr ..est was instructed to appear before the Eoard of Supervisors and ascertain if some action could be taken toward lessening this tax, either by having the same eliminated or by having the City of Stockton share equally in the burden of it. The execution of a joint pole agreement for poles on South Main Street between the City, the Central California Traction Company and the Pacific Telephone & Tele"-raph Company was dir& ected on motion of Councilman ,ieihe, Shattuck second. s_'hiss Amy L, Boynton, City Librarian appeared at this time and addressed the Council regarding the userulness of the money derived from the County Library Tax and applied under the contract system for library service ,.ram the Stockton Public Library stating that the ity expended about $2 600 annually to provide while to outside patrons also that hile Lodi paid 6% of the County library tax, it used but 2% of the books. City Attorney Glenn -'est stated that Dr John J. Sivpy des- ired to raid. with the Council_ regarding the meat inspection service. It :,°as decided that Aril 7th would be a convenient date and the City Attorney uas as so directed to inform Dr. Sippy. City Attorney read a copy of the decision of Judge J.A. Smith of Calaveras County in -the case of City of Lodi vs East Bay Municipal Ltiliy District and of this District against the City. • Bills amounting to $7,206.45 as a3proved by the Finance Committee were @l6,4ed and ordered paid, Councilmen Shattuck and r'eihe were named a Committee to frame suitable resolutions of respect for Mr. Louis F.
