The regular mea tin:' of the City Council of the City o:
Lodi was called to order at 8:05 P. Councilmen Hale,
Roach, Shattuck, ,iei._e and Spooner present.
The minutes of the rezular meetin:: of Fe oruary 18, 1929
were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the mayor.
The representative of the Standard _fence Company present-
ed samples accorot;.nyir,the proposition for the construction
of fencina• around the proposed tennis courts in Lawrence Park.
No action taken.
;.:r. N. I:ewfield, on behalf of the Lodi Tennis Club, of-
fered to turn over their present tennis court at the corner
of R1rn and Chum__ Streets of this city, includinz fences, rets,
and li?htinz system. -.iayor Spooner stated that ::'rs. Liens',
the owner of the property, will allow its use for the City.
On ^lot ion of Councilman Shattuck, .. e the second, the city en-
ineer ani superinte n:.ent of streets were instructed to pro-
ceed with the ___..tion of tennis courts in the park.
This beim the time set by notice duly published for the
reception of bids for the public pr.intinz of the City of Lodi,
the clerk announced that he had received two proposals: that
of the Lodi News, oronosin? to publish in accordance with
specifications of notices, ordinances, etc., of the City at
the rate of fifty seven cents per column inch_ for first pub-
lication, forty five cents for the next column inch, and forty
three cents for any subsequent publication. The Lodi Sentinel
proposed fifty five cents per column inoh for the first Publi-
cation, forty cents for the next, and t hirt:f e i. ht cents for
arty subse ouent publication. It appe arin� that the proposal of
the Lodi .sentinel was the lowest end best bid received, award.
^r?s made to that firm by the passage of Resolution of awards
i:o. 573 by the followinw vote:

Reports from the city plumbing inspector, chief of police,
and pound master were received, read and ordered filed.
The clerk read a communication from W. E. Lilley protest-
inR asainst the stora7e of Rasoline in uncovered tanks in the
City of Lodi.
On motion of Councilmen Roach, Hae second, the salary of
the secretary of the vire Deoartoernt was fixed at ;10.00 monthly,
this salary to include_ his compensation as treasurer of the ?ire
Departcaent also.
On motion of Coluncilman :;eihe, =roach second, city engineer
L. 3arzellotti was authorized to attend the annual rseetin? of
the California�lSe was.e orks Association to be held at Fresno
March 20 and 21, 1929.
In the matter of the improvement of Cherok-ee Lane Resolution
i+o. 572 was endorsed by Counc ilman Hale, ohattuck Second, and
adopted -by the following vote:

Lodi, that this Cit.; C ourc it hereby approves of any and
all efforts that may be nut forth to secure the widenin,
o' the pavement nt and the installation of curbs and butters,
and that this City Council hereb:; approves the tentative
plans submitted b. the Department of Hi:''ralays and hereby
offers its co-operation to the Di-ision of Public '.Yorks
and to the 3oard of Supervisors of San Joaquin Count; in
order to accomplish this end and will aid the performance
Of said work financially or otherwise;
RESOLPED, that a copy of this Resolution be delivered
to : r. R. J. ?ierce, District Enzineer of the ,Division of
Eiahways, Department of Public ,:oris of the State of Calif-
ornia; a copy to :ir. r:. David, Secretary of Lodi District
Chamber of ComLlerce and a copy to the 3oard of Supervisors
of San Joaquin County.
