:onday, January 7, 1929
A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Lodi
was held be?innin? at 8:10 d' --lock, ?.ia. on the date first
above written, Councilmen Hale , Roach, Shattuck, ,ieihe and
Spooner (2::ayor) present, none absent nor tardy.
The minutes Of the rezular meetincr of December 17, 1928
were read, approved as read, and so endorsed by the
Mr. u. N. dadison anpeared in re?ard to the building Dermit
held un by the Council on Noae_mber 5th in &ich he asked for
permission to repair fire damaeed buildinPs at Nos. 30, 35,
and 37 South Sacramento Street.. Fire Chief 3. C. Lousrherty,
being present, recommended that Hr. i:adison close up the space
between the brick and sheet steel buildir.grs and replace the
damaaed rafters, also install wire Glass skyli=ht in the roof
of the shop in the rear of No. 37 South Sacramento Street.
;Zr. :dadison promised to mane these changes, but on the sugges-
tion of the City Attorney he :was requested to file an amended
application, and on the filing o` this application, the Council
granted permission. This was done on motion of Councilman
Shattuck, ::ale second.
Mr. H. deber addressed the 3oard in regard to the adoption
of the standard plumbinP ordinance.
Reports from the Pouna i.'aster and Chief of ?olice for the
month of December were received, read. and ordered filed.
A communication of the Secretary of Lodi 7olunteer Fire De-
partment notifying the Council of changres in the organization
was read, and' on motion - of Councilman Shattuck, ,;eihe. second,
Sam zllbrist_^_t suas appointed Fire .-arshal and ;eorge polenske and
L. Peters were confirmed as deputies.
The application of Otto i. ='homsen for water serrice on
South School Street was referred to auoerintendent Ienninz. she
Council endorsed the subraitted by the League of California :.:uni-
cipalities for the hassaae of a measure now before the State
e xisiature recomuendinz the appropriation of tire sum of ',05,000
for the inresticration of sewaTe and trade waste disposal. 'his
was done by the adoption of `'.esolution _To. 565-1, endorsed b,-
Councilman :isle and Gassed b,; unanimous rote of the Council.
3n- annual contract for t'r_e purchase of transformers from
the eneral 2lectric Company of 235 ilontpomery Street, San Fran-
cisco, was authorized to be executed on motion of Councilman
Shattuck, Hale second.
Three building permits totaling : 375.00 were allowed, the
application of W. 1H. Cutts For permission to erect a veneer:d
'prick building at 114 East .slm Street was not allowed, it being;
within the fire limits. On motion of Councilman .ie're, Roach
second, the Clerk was instructed to prepare resolution to be
presented at `he next meeting? of t e Council consolidating the
offices of Street SuT?erintendent and -'ire Chief as contemplated
in Ordinance ..o. 162. The Clerk was instructed to notify the
Superintendent of Streets that his men should not collect refuse
from private property.
Bills in the amount of :.11,329.25 as approved by the finance -
C')mmittee were allowed and ordered paid.

Council adjourned to meet at 8 o'cloci: ' of .Ye nesday, Janu-
