TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1928.
Pursuant to adjournment taken from the regular meeting
held August 20th., the City Council of the City of Lodi met
in regular session at 3.05 o'clock P.M. on the date first
above written, Councilmen Hale, Roach, Shattuck, Weihe and
Mayor Spooner present, none absent.
The minutes of the regular meeting held August 20th.,1928
were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the Mayor.
Mr L J. Robinson addressed the Council on several matters
relating to clocks, drinking fountains, water rates, taxes,
sur:lus funds, street sweeper and band shell.
Attorney 0.C.Parkinson addressed the Council as repres-
entative of several Phillipino societies in protest against
alleged gambling houses at 14 N. Mairi Street and at 16 S.
Main Street, asking the co-operation of the Police in sup-
pressing illegal games. Mr. Parkinson was assured that the
Chief of Police had the full support of the City Council in
any proceedings and that he would be informed of the alleged
infractions of the law at the places mentioned.
The application of F.M.Troutner for permission to install
a curb gasoline pump on Nest Locust Street near Hutchins Street
was granted on motion of Councilman Shattuck, Hale second,
Councilman Weihe voting "No" as being opposed to such pumps on
principal.
The reports of the Plumbing Inspector, City Poundmaster
and Chief of Police for the month of August were read and
ordered filed.
The Clerk read in full the call for the annual convention
of the League of California Municipalities to be held at San
Bernardino October 9th. to 13th. At the order of the Mayor,
the matter of delevates was postponed until the next meeting.
Six building permits aggregating $2,100.00 were granted.
Ordinance No. 166. " AN ORDINANCE LEVYING TAXES IN THE YEBR
1928 FOR THE FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1, 1929." having
been introduced Auzust 20th.,1928 was introduced for passage on
motion of Councilman Weihe, Shattuck second, and finally pas-
sed, adopted and ordered to print by the following vote: -
AYES: Councilmen, Weihe, Shattuck, Hale, Roach and Spooner
NOES: COUNCILMEN, 'NONE ABSENT, NONE.
The Ordinance was then approved and signed by the Mayor.
Ordinance No. 132. " AN ORDINANCE SEPARATING THE DUTIES OF
THE CHIEF OF POLICE AND SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS OF THE CITY OF
LODI AND PROVIDING FOR .THEIR RESPECTIVE COMPENSATIONS " having
been regularly introduced June 4th.,1328 was introduced for
passage on motion of Councilman Weihe, Roach second and after
final reading was passed and adopted by the following vote: -
AYES: Councilmen, Weihe, Roach, Hale, Shattuck and Mayor
Spooner.
NOES: Councilmen, None. ASSENT: Councilmen, None.
Ordinance No. 162 was then approved and signed by the Mayor.
Ordinance No. 167."AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 10, 14,
17 and 27 OF O='DINANCE NO. 129 ENTITLED ' AN ORDINANCE
PROVIDING FOR TEE ASSESSMENT, LEVY AND COLLECTION OF TAXES.'
was introduced on motion of Councilman Weihe, Roach second, and
by the same motion laid over for the statutory period.

On motion of Councilman Weihe, Shattuck second, the Clerk
was directed to have Davis—Pearce Company prepare plans and
specifications for remodeling the 'rater works building.
On motion of Councilman *Neihe, the Council adjourned until
the day and hour of their next regular meeting, September 17th.,
1928.
