City Hall, City of Lodi
Mcnaay, March 7th. ,1927.
This regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City
of Lodi was called to order at 8.03 PX.: Trustees Hale, Roach,
Shattuck and :reihe present, Trustee Spooner absent. In the
absence of Trustee Spooner, Trustee :ale gas unanimously chosen.
President pro tem; motion of Trustee Shattuck seconded by

were read, approved as read and so endorsed by the President.
No persons beir in attendance, the order of Public Hear-
ings was passed by or er of the President and the Board proceed-
ed -to hear communications and reports.
The Clerk read written aoplications from 0. L. Sapp, .1.T.
Rutherford and John S. Sheehan for positions on the police
force and from Adam Peterson for a position at the Sewage Disp-
osal Plant. At the order of the President, all applications
were placed on file,
A coemunication from the City Clerk of the City of Redding
asking the co-operation of this City in defeating Assembly Bill
Mo. 917 now pending before the State Legislature as tending to
circumscribe the activities of sixth class cities in the owner -

Resolution No. 50'? recording the opinion of the Board as toeing
opposed to this bill was adopted.
The City Engineer havi received a co:<munication and est-
imate from Mr. P. t. Pierce of the California State Highway
commission regarding the paving of Cherokee Lane from Locust to
Harold Street, the letter r:as read and discussed but the matter
still being in a nebulous state, it was laid over until a definite
method of proceedure might be evolved.

less clarifying the defination of uhe City's roadeay to the
dump ground and erovidi^.g for an exchange of lands whereby the
Citi wculd obtain a new roadway along te Southern Pacific
right-of-way was affirmed and approved and the lands to be convey-
ed -accepted by the passage of Resolution No. 508 ineroduced on
motion of Trustee Srattuck seconded by Trustee Roach.
Resolution No. 509, a resolution authorizing the President
of the Board to petition the Board of Supervisors of San Joaquin
County for cancellation of tax against property formerly owned
b,, Josephine Jopp and now the property of the City was intro-
duced by Trustee Shattuck, seconded by Trustee Weihe and carried
by unanimous vote.
Reports of the Marshal and Pouncaster for the month of
February were submitted, read and ordered filed.
A letter frac J. E. Hopkins, City Recorder, stating that
the duties of his office had increased and that he believed
that the position should carry a larger salary was referred to
the Committee on Public Health and Safety.

fine moneys collected s vat inthat he had filed a demurrer
to the information filed by the District Attorney but that he
would like to avoid the suit by compromise if the latter could
be effected. The matter was left in his hands.
Tee Clerk reported that the President of the Board, Mr.
Spooner had reported to him that the Foster-Kleiser Company
were erecting sign -boards near Pose Street and Lodi Avenue and
near Hutchins Street and Lodi Avenue within the residence
district. No application for percu.t having been filed and it
appearing that -neighboring residents would necessarily have to

compplain bef ore the Board could take action, the matter was
lefi until the next meeting.
The Cornittee on Public Health and Safety rendered a
written report on the matters referred to them at the meeting
of February 21st,1927 recomerding:
(1) That the police department be placed in uniform as
soon as pratical.
�2) That two telephone boxes or more be installed at
locations to be desi ,ated by the Marshal for use of officers.
(3) That the resignal light sgstem be extended.
The report eras received bano action taken.
Sever. building permits for buildings to cost $7,850.00
were ordered granted.
Bills in the amount of $8 952.30 were audited and on the
recaamendation of the Finance Committee and on motion of
Trustee Roach, seconded by Trustee ','deihe, ordered paid.
No further business appearing, the Board adjourned until
the date of their next regular meeting on motion. of Trustee
Shattuck.
