HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - July 21, 1924cj City Hall, City of Lodi l'onay July 21, 1924, The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City of Lodi was called to order by the President at 8.12 o'clock P.111 on the above date; Trustees Eettler, Roach, Shattuck and Spooner present, Trustee Hale absent. The minutes of the regular meeting of July 7th were read, acproved as read and so endorsed by the President, There being no persons in attendance, the order of Public Hearings and Protests was passed and the Board proceeded to hear the communications and reports accumulated since the last meeting. Fire Chief E.H.Stark applied for leave of absencefrom August 3rd for a period of ten days in :which to attend the Fire Chiefs convention at Pasadena and the same was unanimous- ly allowed. Er & Ere P.iT.Loitwood af.dretised a letter to the Board in protest against the expenditure of money for a fire alarm system; Haydon Conpa.ny applied for insurance on the new fire eng- ine house and buildings at the sewage disposal plant, quoting rates. The Lodi Realty Company also applied for a share of the City's insurance. Reports of the City Plumbing inspector for liay and June were received and ordered filed. Quarterly reports from the Treasurer and City Clerk were read at length and on motion of Trustee Shattuck, approved and ordered filed. Yr. H. F. Ellis, Pity Recorder, appeared before the Board in person and orally applied for leave of absence in which to regain his health, leave to date from July 24th for a period of sixty days. Leave was granted is Ellis by the passage of the r._ following resolution by unanimous vote. R.ELUT ION . 2EAS, Lr. H. F. Ellis, the duly appointed, acting and qualified City Recorder of the City of Lodi has applied to this Board for leave of absence for sixty days from and after the 24th day of July, 1924 on account of ill health; BF, IT RESOLED, therefore, that this Board hereby grants Mr Ellis the leave applied for and for the period stated; BE IT RESOLVEL A$O, .that 1r J. E. Hopkins be and he is hereby appointed to act and serve as City Recorder of this City during the absence of Mr Ellis as aforesaid. The Clerk read a lengthy re -ort, in part, of the findings of the State Board of Health in rep,-ard to a test run made by their engineers at the Sewage Disposal Plant: also a letter regarding the contamination of water su plies. Trustee Shattuck brought up the matter of the urgent need of reaairs to the Pine Street arch. The matter was referred to the City Clerk for investigation and report.- Fred eport;Fred W. Post aoplied for two reeks leave of absence with pay from his duties as supervising attendant at the Selvage Disp- osal Plant and on motion of Trustee Shattuck the same was grant- ed to date from August 1st. The Clerk stated that the Sanitary City Stavanger Company had a_�plied to him for release from payments due the City ender the garbage collection contract held by them for the period that garbage could not be moved on account of the apthos fever guar- ; rantine. The City Attorney advised the Board that this would i not impair or invalidate the contract and the Clerk was inst- ructed to ascertain the exact period within which garbage could not be moved and sold and report back to the Board for their action. On motion of Trustee Mettler, bills as audited, amounting to $4,172.35 were approved for payment. No further business appearing, the Board adjourned on motion of Trustee Zettler.
