HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - November 5, 1997 (73)CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Authorize City Manager to Execute Lease Agreement with Laidlaw Transit Services, Inc. for the Lease of Two Transit Buses MEETING DATE: November 5, 1997 PREPARED BY: Public Works Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council authorize the City Manager to execute the lease agreement with Laidlaw Transit Services, Inc. for the lease of two transit buses. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The City of Lodi's Transit Division is in need of two larger vehicles for its fixed -route service (GrapeLine). The addition of the fifth fixed -route, and the increase in Dial -A -Ride ridership, has placed a strain on the fleet. At this time, there are no spare vehicles in the fleet. Laidlaw has had to send its trainees to Stockton because there are no vehicles to train them in Lodi. Besides the spare vehicle issue, the GrapeLine ridership continues to increase. On routes 1, 2, and 3, passengers routinely stand. For this reason, we have sought larger buses. We preferred 30 -foot buses, but the 35 -foot buses we are proposing to lease will do for the next two years. On October 1, 1999, the City should have its new 30 -foot, compressed natural gas (CNG), low -floor buses. These two buses have been thoroughly inspected by the City's Equipment Maintenance Division. An oil analysis was also done for the engine and transmission, and wear was normal. One bus has 120,570 miles and the other has 131,056 miles. They operate on diesel. FUNDING: Federal Transit Administration (FTA) $ 29, 888 (two-year cost) Transportation Development Act (TDA) $ 7,47?, -,No -year cost Q AC M u Prepared by Carlos Tobar, Transportation Manager XR/CT/Irn cc: Laidlaw Transit Services, Inc.
