City Hall, City of Lodi,
Monday, June 1st., 1925.
The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the City
of Lodi for the first Monday in June .;as called to order by the
President. at 8 o'clock P.L. on the date and at the place first
above written;. Trustees Hale, Mettler, Roach, Shattuck and
Spooner present, none absent.
The minutes of the adjourned meeting of Lay 25th were read
and approved without correction or addition.
Traffic Officer C. O. Jackson filed his monthly report to
the Marshal covering the period from lay 1st to 31st showing
a total of twenty-one arrests with $247.50 collected in fines.
The City Marshal also filed his, r:ay report showing total
collections of $899.50 and the same was accepted.
In the matter of the resignation of City Recorder H.F.
Ellis, effective from and after this date, the committee ap-
pointed lay 18th. submitted the following resolution and on
motion of Trustee Mettler the sane was ordered spread in full
upon the minutes, a copy forwarded to Er Ellis and another
copy furnished the local news papers for publication: -
RESOLUTION NO. 480 -
7 REAS, lr. H.F.Ellis after a period of ten consecutive
years service as Recorder of this Cit ,'has found that the press
of other business will not allow him to longer retain that office
and has presented his resignation to became effective on this
first day7 of June 1925 :
AND WHEREAS, Er Ellis has given freely of his time and
effort during all these years, receiving but a nominal return for
the burdens imposed won him by virtue of his office and has been
always willing to serie the ends of justice, whether the time may
have been convenient to himself or not
BE IT RESOLVED, therefore, that this Board of Trustees of
the City of Lodi, both on behalf of the present *membership and
their predecessors in office, do herein express their sincere
regrets that Lr .Alis can no more occupy the curule chair and
they do hereby express and will ever hold, a feeling of the deepest
appreciation for his works toward the City and its Citizens;
At times in the past, there may have arisen some thoughts
that decisions have been either too lenient or too severe or
that the Tanner of punishment might have not served to deter the
crime punished: time alone decides these matters, and we well
can say that the :rays ofustice have been better served than at
the time mi.,.ht have seemed to be the case and that passing years
have shown his perspicacity and depth of judgement.

Committee.
The Clerk read a letter from Ere J. A. Henning, President
of the play ground commission serving during the last year advis-
ing the hoard that the members of this commission have decided

to resit in order to allow the appointment of a new membership.
Action on this letter was postponed until later in the evening.
On motion of Trustee Hale, Fred 'd. Post, attendant at the
Sewage Disposal Plant was granted two Weeks leave With pay from
and after June 15th; on motion of Trustee Kettler, 'E.R.Charnel of
the fire department -ras granted annual leave for a similar period
from and after June 16th., the fire chief to su_jply a man capable
to handle a truck during Er Channell's absence.
The Board then proceeded to consider tentative plans for
opening of California Street, deciding to open the street so as
to take approxima.tel.- 12 feet from the lands of Angelo Costa and
4B feet from the lands of Mrs, l:aria Focacci, assessing the costs
on fronting property only. The City Engineer presented a plat in
accord With -the foregoing and the City Attorney having prepared
a_Resolution of.Intention, the same was read but not adopted.
Yr Will E. Wiley, Supt, of Schools Lodi District, appeared
in the matter of the operation_ of play grounds, stating that the
School District could expend about $1,400.00 on account of salary
for a part time instructor to be expended during the school term;
he proposed that the City take over these activities during the
school vacation period expending about $600.00 on account of
salaries and $900.00 for equipment. The Board agreed on this
separation of management and finances and -instructed the Clerk
to prepare a suitable resolution appropriating moneys for this
purpose and designating the Trustee or Trustees to be appointed
from their number to complete the organization of a Committee
on Play Grounds.

,I' Lay 6th.,1925 were a.ra_ded to Joseph Dotson by the passage of
Resolution of Award No. 479 by the following vote: -
AYES: Trustees Hale, Shattuck, ettler, Roach and Spooner.
NOES: Trustees, none. ANSM,IT:CP1R;
Bills amounting to $6,925.02 as approved by the auditing
cormittee were allowed and ordered paid on motion of Trustee
Hale;
On motion of Trustee 'Hale, the Board adjourned.
