HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - April 13, 2000 SMLODI CITY COUNCIL JOINT MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL AND THE LODI ARTS COMMISSION HUTCHINS STREET SQUARE, 125 SOUTH HUTCHINS STREET THURSDAY, APRIL 13, 2000 6:00 P.M. ROLL CALL Present: Council Members — Hitchcock (arrived at approximately 7:15 p.m.), Land, and Nakanishi (left at approximately 8:10 p.m.) Absent: Council Members— Pennino and Mann (Mayor) Present: Arts Commissioners — Crabtree, Fosen, Gerard, Heinitz, Maley, Reynolds, Smith, Vandenberg and Walth Absent: Arts Commissioners— None Also Present: City Manager Flynn, Deputy City Manager Keeter, Community Center Director Lange, Arts Coordinator Yvonne, City Attorney Hays and Interim City Clerk Taylor DISCUSSION OF ITEMS OF MUTUAL CONCERN The evening began with a "behind the scenes" tour of the professional light and sound system, dressing rooms and an overhead tour of the entire theatre from the catwalk. Following dinner, Mayor Pro Tempore Nakanishi left and the discussion continued on an informal basis. The Arts Commission presented Tim Mattheis, who recently resigned his position, with a photographic plaque depicting the projects he was involved in during his 10 years of service. Commission members discussed several past accomplishments, including: • Lunchtime Live • DramaFest • Celebrate America • Children's Summer Theatre • Young Renaissance Art Show Arts Coordinator Yvonne shared some of the Commission's future goals, including: • New Education Programs for Kids and Adults • New Music Programs - Under the Columns, Stockton Symphony, Smooth Jazz at the Square • New Lighting System in Kirst Hall and New Theatre Performances in the Thomas Theatre • Expanding the Art in Public Places Program • New Visual Arts Program • New Marketing Programs and Increases in Staff Council Members Land and Hitchcock expressed their pleasure and appreciation for all that the Arts Commission has accomplished to date and commended them on their vision and goals for the future. Council Member Land stated our community is fortunate to have the Hutchins Street Square facility and encouraged the Arts Commission to continue the great job they are doing.
