HomeMy WebLinkAboutAgenda Report - November 5, 1997 (77)CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Radar Unit Replacement for Police Motorcycles DATE: November 5, 1997 PREPARED BY: LARRY D. HANSEN, CHIEF OF POLICE RECOMMENDED ACTION: That the City Council approve the release of funds ($8,000), from the 1997-1998 budget for the replacement of radar units on the three (3) Police Department motorcycles. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The radar units currently mounted on the Police Department motorcycles are seven (7) years old. These units were never originally designed for outside exposure, extreme temperature variances and constant vibration from the motorcycles. The radar units now malfunction approximately 50% of the time. The numerous repairs are costly and the software is so outdated it doesn't allow the unit to process the information quickly. Issues on the radar accuracy come up in court on a regular basis. We would like to replace our current three (3) motorcycle radar units with Kustom Signals Radar, Silver Eagle model. The new units are more technologically advanced and would allow for unsafe speed detection from the front and rear of the motorcycle via "moving mode" technology. The newer radar units would also have more widely accepted credibility in court. FUNDING cc: City Attorney Funding was approved in the 1997-1998 City Budget and are part of the Police operating funds . Larry D. H sen Chief of Police APPROVED: H.
