PUBLIC HEAFINGS - lir Oscar Dittmanson, spokesman for a Corxrdttee from Dis- abled American 'lar Veterar_s, requested use of Lodi Stadium for a rodeo to be held Sunday, June 10, 1945 under the same conditions as obtained in previous years except that the -DAV would guarantee payment of the City's charges instead of the concessionaire. Permission granted Frith the pro.iso that satisfactory evidences of public liability insurance be furnished the City Attcrney. :r Gaines Hunter of the above cor..mittee asked that the Council consider acquisition of additional land north and east of the stadium for egress and ingress and also for additional parking, Mayor P.inn stated the conditions under -which the City had previously negotiated for a?ditional lands and of the prices asked by an abutting owner. assist Ant City Engineer Singer and City Clerk Blakely were instructed to ascertain_ if more ground could be purchased north of the Stadium and the prices and conditions. Mr hyon, representing F.:r E.D..'.toody, Superintendent of the Southern Pacific Company presented a re -estimate of the cost of an adequate crossing at Tokay Street, stating that the entire cost would be $6 200 of which it was expected that the City's share would be $3 200. City - Engineer 'White, Mr Singer and Southern Pacific officials were directed to again look over this crossing and see if costs could be pared down and a better allocationof the expense made than had heretofore been offered. Jackson submitted a performance record on the ser'Jice of Spencer Joerke appointed August 27, 1944. as temporary patrol- man with a letter recommending that Joerke be retained as a permanent employee. It appearing that Joerke had been appointed from a duly est- ablisher eligible list but as a temporary patrolman for the "summer season" and as Section 7 of Ordinance No 276 prohibits giving credit for ermlo naent under temporary a7pointment in any promotional list, it ;s.s moved by Councilman Rigs, Jeihe second, that Joerke be appointed a regular patrolman with the apparent intent that his probationary status -•rou1 J date frcrn the date of such appointment, Notion carried. City Engineer ,+:ite and .assistant City Engineer Singer reported on the formulation of the 19-=5 contract for cannery ,vaste disposal with Foster and Acod Canning Ccmpany, especially as to the cost of the city's attempts in odor control in the summer of 191,4, estimating that it mould cost about al 500 to a.ply Lme to the waste residual but that with the use of another chemical sold under ,e oroprietar^y name of "cloroben", the cost of this feature might be reduced.
