CITY OF LODI COUNCIL COMMUNICATION AGENDA TITLE: Purchase of Interpretive Tour Boat ($17,264.16) MEETING DATE: November 5, 1997 PREPARED BY: Parks and Recreation Director RECOMMENDED ACTION: That City Council adopt the attached resolution authorizing the purchase of the above item from Bohner Boat and Marine Incorporated of Madera, in the amount of $17,264.16 and appropriate funds in accordance with the recommendation below. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Parks and Recreation Department submitted a grant request to General Mills Incorporated to fund a new interpretive safari boat that would be used to enhance our river interpretive programs. That grant, in the amount of $50,000, earmarked $18,000 to purchase the boat with the remaining balance ($32,000) to go toward a new children's wading pool. Staff submitted a request for bid submittals to the following companies: Bidder Location Bid Bohner Boat and Marine Inc. Madera $17,264.16 Marine Boats Lodi $17,439.73 Brothers Boats Sacramento $18,513.25 Bohner Boat and Marine was not only the lowest bidder, but also included a mooring cover. Bids included trailer and all taxes, permits and licenses. PROJECT 2 INTERPRETIVE RIVER BOAT/ HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE DOCK AND FISHING PIER $76,$20 FUNDING: GENERAL MILLS $18,000 (Requested) CITY OF LODI (CDBG) $509000 CITY OF LODI (CIP) $ 82520 This project (purchase of boat) will allow our department to offer river interpretive tours to all age groups as part of our environmental education programs offered at the lake in conjunction with our discovery center and 58 acre nature area. RESOLUTION NO. 97-180 A RESOLUTION OF THE LODI CITY COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASE OF A TOUR BOAT FOR THE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT WHEREAS, Lodi Municipal Code, Section 3.20.070, authorizes dispensing with bids for purchases of supplies, services or equipment when it is in the best interests of the City to do so; and WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department a grant request to General Mills Incorporated to fund a new interpretive safari boat that would be used to enhance the City of Lodi's river interpretive programs; and WHEREAS, the grant from General Mills Incorporated was in the amount of $50,000, of which $18,000 is earmarked for the purchase of the Tour Boat and the remaining $32,000 is to be used for the new children's wading pool; and WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation staff requested informal bid submittals for the tour boat as shown below: Bidder Location Bid Bohner Boat and Marine Inc. Madera $17,264.16 Marine Boats Lodi $17,439.73 Brothers Boats Sacramento $18,513.25 WHEREAS, staff recommends purchasing the tour boat from Bohner Boat and Marine Incorporated of Madera, California. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lodi City Council hereby approves the purchase of the tour boat from Bohner Boat and Marine Incorporated of Madera, California, in the amount of f$17,264.16.
